Had a spike chasing a doe this evening and then killed this mangy little mongrel about 10 minutes before sunset.

Started with forage soybeans and overseeded with brassicas in August them rye in September. Did this across 6 acres…it’s been crushed. Forage soybeans at least doubled our deer numbers. The deer have stuck around for what remains. As soon as the snows pile up, the plots will be done. Hoping the deer spread out so we don’t have our browse too impacted.Elk,
What’s in the plot ? Seems to be working.
Thanks.

View attachment 24644 Opening of rifle in upstate NY. Passed a small 8 and some smaller bucks. After the sun hit and warmed things up into the 20s, I had 15-25 deer in this 6acre plot complex for the balance of the day. With these numbers, it’s just a matter of time before one of our mature bucks pays a visit. I’ll fill my doe tag the last hour of the last day of the season.
In NY, you can take a doe with with archery and muzzle loader. I also have a landowner doe tag. Still not enough. I’ve got some friends with doe tags who will also help. With the explosion in numbers, I wish we could take 8-10. We only have 200 acres and I think we are supporting 40-50 deer. You only get one doe tag? Looks like a pretty healthy population.
