This is in East Feliciana. I've never had a buck on camera this big. Not in Union Parish either. This is the first night I had the camera out too haha. This is on my father in laws land. Been hunting Union parish for 27 years & never seen one that big. I guess bc East Feliciana is closer to the Mississippi River the deer have better nutrition for antler potential.

That’s a nice buck, long tines. East and west Feliciana produces nice bucks every season but it’s nothing like it was back in the seventies and eighties. Those pine plantations used to be soybean fields back then and really fueled the antlers and body weights.

Game on! You need to spend some serious time in this area. Somewhere he's got to be moving in daylight, probably 100 yards from his bedding area, if you can figure that one out, he might end up on your wall.

Good advice. Yes prime rut for this area of the state is in January apparently so I will give it a go. This buck has come out every night I’ve had the camera at this location between 10PM & 1:30AM. I’m hoping like you say that his bedding area cannot be far if he is coming out every single night.

There's a lot of little details that need to be right, (or else a dumb hunter with just the right amount of luck) to single out one mature buck and put your tag on him. I have learned that to hunt one certain buck takes an average of 5 sits. And that's after you've done your homework and you're sitting in a good location, with the wind right, and the ability to get in and out without spooking him.

Also, forgot to mention. The camera there is only about 125 yards from father in law’s house in the woods. So I bet those bucks are use to noises & many smells. They may afford some trial & error. Just thinking out loud. I haven’t hunted there this year but will here next few days. Yes, though I will still be mindful of the wind.

Watching to see how this unfolds. Keep us posted if you go after him.

Late season deer hunt, an hour and a half before dark, it just started snowing heavy, deduction says this should produce a deer, but instinct says that the deer will stay tight in thermal cover tonight, .243 is loaded with Federal 80 gr soft points.View attachment 29056

A great evening to be out, snowing, cold, and breezy, but like they say in Alaska; there's nothing like bad weather, just bad clothing. Then in the last 15 minutes of shooting light things turned really interesting and we finished filling the freezer for the winter.

90 yard broadside double lung shot with 80 grain .243 soft point and I found the bullet laying right under the skin on the off side. I'm not sure why, but this big doe dropped right on the spot with a double lung shot, which is kind of rare for a. 24 caliber load.

I prefer October in Pennsylvania for deer hunting due to our beautiful weather, crisp, cold mornings and balmy, fresh afternoons, so most years I'm usually not hunting much in January anymore. However, PA has several different late seasons in different areas, and this year me and several friends have been filling some tags and supplying deer for some people asking for venison, and the last couple days have been productive. I've got another one here all cleaned up, that I just rolled outside in 25 degrees to cool down. Late season does have this one advantage of cold temperatures to hang meat.
