Thanks man. Yes, it was a hard pass, because I think that one is 4.5 based on his hips and other body features. But even if he is 4.5 he could still gain quite a bit in another year.
He is actually bigger than my Booner was the year before I killed him, so that adds some anticipation for the possibility of something good happening.

Thanks Worm. It was fun watching him. He didn’t show until late morning. He worked a scrape in a fence row and then moved down the fence row to within 180 yards of me. Then it looked like he laid down within 5 feet of where I loaded my deer on the truck last year. My heart was racing quite a bit…lol.
The whole time this was going on, two young bucks were chasing does everywhere and ended up fighting each other within 30 yards of where my son shot his buck this year.

I’m used to watching turnips rot (and smelling them all winter). It’s making me laugh out loud watching deer eat big frosty canola leaves this morning.

Opening of rifle season in the Catskills today. Morning was slow….saw 9 does. Evening picked up considerably. I saw 25 including 3 shooters….just not for opening day (I have 3 or 4 that are better). I had this freak in my crosshairs for about 45 minutes. I also passed on this 8. Both deer were heading towards my son so I wasn’t anxious to punch my tag.
I did see a first day buck but couldn’t get on him quick enough.

Hard rain but I just had a big healthy 3 yo 8 point to come through. Brightened my spirits.
Our general rifle season started Saturday and Saturday morning I passed a 3.5 yr old 8, Sunday morning I passed a 3.5 yr old 9 in the morning and a 3.5 yr old 8 in the evening. I saw nothing off stand this morning but when I went in for lunch I saw a spike and 3 does in our south plot. The wind switched from the East this morning to slightly SW this event no so I am taking a chance on the very back of our property sitting near the clover plot I had dozed out of solid woods but then found that the neighbors liked to sit the fence so I abandoned it to nature...there is also a small pond in the corner if anything happens to be thirsty...
Old Number 1 showed back up a couple days ago with a broken main beam...been about 2 weeks since he was mia...

Cold windy day yesterday. Only day I had to hunt. Passed on several bucks including a really wide 8 I thot would be something next year. I Grunt called late evening 2 bucks showed. Passed the one. Debated the other 8 at 125 yds. Finally he’d had enough about the time I chose to shoot. Running shot in brush but some openings.
First shot missed. Dang it. Second shot missed. Dang it.{actually nailed the boilermaker but thot missed]. Third shot from the 270 WSM and he dropped. On the ridge. Within sight of the atv. Lights to gut by. Gotta love it. Headed to barn now to take to butcher this morn. Good luck guys.
