Well, this morning was interesting to say the least. Sat in my home made hay bale blind for the first time and had deer everywhere. One buck on the hit list (a weird 4.5yo 7 point) showed up but decided it was his lucky day. He walked off and was watching him scent check 4 does on a hill side, when I realized there was 9 nine does within 35 yards. They all kept getting closer and one was only 7 yards away, but they never got my wind. Finally left the blind about 9:15.
Back at the truck I was changing out of my hunting clothes when I heard a shot right up the road and a truck driving off. I jumped in my truck just as he drove by. There is virtually no traffic on the road, so I knew he was up to no good. I started to follow him but he took off pretty fast. I turned around and drove the road slowly, and sure enough there was a big doe that had been head shot flopping around about 10 yards on my land. I quickly took a video in case it would be needed and so there was a time stamp. I won't post it because it's pretty disgusting.
Here's the funny part... This genius was in his
company truck! Needless to say, not only could I id the truck, but his name was all over it. I called the sheriff and Fish and Wildlife and they tracked him down, he confessed, and they gave him a ticket. Plus, this is a small town and everybody will know what he did. The penalty wasn't enough in my mind, but better than nothing. On a positive note, the wildlife officer did give me a salvage tag and even helped me load her in the truck so she didn't go to waste. She's skinned and hanging in my barn now.
Anyway, a good but very strange day.
Pics are always good, so here is the buck. He was a 6pt last year with strange forward slanting horns.
Doe pics from the blind. 8 in the frame 30 yards away.
