I see a big deer SW in oaks right now!
Ended up hearing a rifle shot I thought might be on the 10 acres we added to our other 80 and was from the direction the big deer went so I got down and headed over to check it out. Shot must have been across the line because I never found anyone or anything. Saw 1 more buck walking out toward our house...

Live from Trinity Co., Texas, deep in the Pineywoods ! This plot has GRO's Mass Builder planted early in September. Absolutely no rain since. It is much better than I expected but looks like they are keeping it nubbed off. Pretty high deer density here, and because it's a pine tree operation, I'm severely limited in plotting area. This is a little over a half acre plot. That's a 2.5 year old buck out in front. Already saw a doe and fawn and two bucks. The two year old wanted to procreate, but she wasn't having any !

I am having a good morning ! Got to see two young bucks sparring, and a nice mid 20s eight point came through a few minutes ago. Gonna be a nice buck in a couple years ! Feeder spun and the hogs came out of the woodwork. The big boar left with a .284 hole in him. The deer came to the corn in a matter of two minutes, proof that hogs scare them more than rifle shots.
This is the first time I've picked up my .280 Rem this year, but I'm tucked into a corner on this place and my bow blind only works for a S wind. This is MLD and our gun season opened the last Saturday in September, but it's been too hot to hunt much, so I've stuck close to home. I have to roll out at 4:00 am to get in the stand 15/20 minutes before light. Of course, I'll spend a couple nights here before going home.
I have two tagged does that frequent my spot and I look forward to seeing them every year. This place is 16,000 acres, and we have high fenced places next to us, but we're not fenced. My spot is unique in that I have a fence and road about 75 yards behind me, so there's no incentive for deer to get downwind. As long as I don't hunt on any kind of west wind, I'm good.

Sitting over a Chuck Norris this afternoon in "Walker Texas Ranger". Drilled a big doe about 15 minutes ago. Got a buddy who has probably on of the best tracking dogs in the south. He's got a pup needing some confidence. Got a good pass through thinking both lungs. Heard her crash about 80 yards out. Update to follow

Well this isn't the dog that found the deer. The picture I took in the woods didn't turn out. Ruger got right on track and found the deer. But ended up coming back to us and wouldn't go back and get on track. It was thicker than I thought in there and the deer wasn't bleeding. Heath went and got his number one dog Gauge. He made short work of the track helped pull the deer out of the woods...just tugging in the opposite direction....lol. What I thought was a double lung turned out to be a single lung and a liver shot. None the less she crashed where I heard her...about 60 yards or so. Doe ended weighing 110lbs and was dry as Dry Creeks food plots are. My pup Piper was excited to see her first deer and get a taste of fresh meat.

Good job junky ! Nothing like a good blood trailing dog. BTW, my forecast says heavy rain for this coming weekend.

Went after work to hunt a bit this evening. Several days of freezing temps, wind from west, calm day... no brainer. Didn’t get in stand till 5:30 after deliberate slow walk. Usually don’t hunt this early up the gut of my Farm but I knew acorns had fallen heavily. Shot nice buck from this stand couple yrs ago. No trails, they jst feed along hillside. Going a bit old school and not checking cameras this yr.
Saw 2 bucks early. Then 10 pt showed at 60 yds windchecking field for 15 min not moving and straddling my path coming in. Finally turned and fed to stand at 20 yds when too dark to see the white feathers of arrow nocked to recurve. Awesome hunt. Snuck out w/o busting any deer. No does out and bucks scentchecking. Rut on edge and more cold next wk I bet it starts to bust. I’m n meetings this weekend. Bummer.

Cold morning for SC. 49 degrees in the stand. Sitting On a scrape line that looks active. 2 does came through already and left their mark. Hoping the buck is not far behind.
