Love it when a plan comes together
Many times I have referenced that it was my son who got me into deer hunting. When he was about 10. But now he and family live in NC and can only come down for hunting about once a year. This year his oldest boys (9 and 11) were more excited about "seeing some deer" so they planned a Thanksgiving trip (which is just after season opens and better chance).
They came to the lake on Monday and we spent that afternoon and Tuesday morning with some target practice. I was so proud of my son in the way he systematically led the boys thru safety and bulls eye shooting (He is a much better shot than I am).
We splattered the target
The Tuesday afternoon hunt was exciting but no deer was taken. My oldest grandson had some young deer early but did not take a shot. They were small and this trip was more for his cousins.
When we got back to the truck we learned that everyone had some deer activity and "almost" a shot. My son's oldest had a doe in the crosshairs but something spooked her. It was enough to get everyone pumped.
But Tuesday night and early am Wednesday was not looking good. We had a monsoon show up and was threatening our wednesday morning hunt. I got a kick out of the interest all the boys showed in the weather. They watched intently as my son explained what was coming .
We decided we had to try it, and if we could just get to the stands it could rain all it wanted to. The weather map did show some clearing a little later. So we all got our choice of Coffee or Hot Chocolate and prepared for the hunt.
About 6:45 a shot rang from my 243 and we were excited. Soon my son texted Deer emoji, Doe, Skull. I was in a stand with two grandsons and Jack said he saw the deer go down. Sure enough Carter had his first deer with a perfect shot
On Thanksgiving Day we celebrated with family and enjoy some great good. Appetizers included some Summer Sausage from the deer Jack got on Nov 16. A great day and so much to be thankful for
Oh, and this one told me that she wants to go to one of those "play houses" but just with a camera and not a gun. I plan to make that happen!
