Planting time after clethodim application

I have a lot of volunteer roundup ready corn that I intend to terminate with a mix of clethodim (3 oz/acre) plus glyphosate (1 qt/acre) in the near future. If planting corn following clethodim, the label says to wait 6 days. What about if I’m planting the LC grain/clover mix? Can I no-till the fall mix in then immediately spray my herbicide mix, or should I wait a week?

I had to do some reading. Is 3 oz of cleth per acre enough to do it? If so, while there are always risks involved, I think you'd be OK to plant and spray.

Here's the potential problem. The half-life of cleth in the soil is 3- 6 days. So, as your seed germinates it's going to be meeting some level of residual cleth. Now I'm guessing, but unlike some pre-emergent soil applied herbicides that short circuit germination I think the residual cleth wouldn't do that. Rather, it's probably absorbed by the new plant leaf as it germinates. That subtle distinction is what would save you.
And, at 3 oz the problem is even lessened. About the time the plants are out of the ground there should be no perceptible cleth left in the soil.

Of course a label will present the no risk option. Follow it and there can be no issue.

Spray the weekend before? Solves all your issues (except the 3 oz of clethodim, which I think is way too light)?

Thanks, guys. I thought 3 oz was light as well, but that’s what the label says:

I can’t find anything about replant time other than corn on the label. I did find some information online that suggested a 30 day replant delay for wheat, but that same resource recommended 30 days for corn as well (for which the label clearly says 6 days).

I think the key here to the 3 oz rate is the non-ionic surfactant (NIS) and AMS adjuvants and the caution on weed size. Replant time for corn is the only thing on the label. For everything else you're on your own....meaning its not registered for our particular aims.
