Pinetag's Plot - 43 acres in Virginia

Just catching up here too. Glad to see you didn't lose your bridge. That would not have been good. Water is capable of doing so much more damage beyond what we can imagine. The entire southeast and eastern seaboard has been inundated with rain for the past 5 weeks or so. We are just beyond wet down here. Seems it has rained everyday for a month. Humidity feels like August. Good news is that it's supposed to be out of here tomorrow morning with low humidity and dry weather forecasted for the next week.

Always enjoy catching up!
Thanks for looking in TC. I was just glad the bridge was still in one piece! We certainly have been hammered around here. I dumped the rain gauge last weekend and we had an additional 2" this past week. Total accumulations are over 10" in the month of May and most of that was in the last 3 weeks!!

Created some more cover/bedding this morning. Man, it was hot and humid!

So hopefully in the coming weeks I'm going to work to put the bridge back in place. Anyone have suggestions on how to lift the bridge and move it over? It needs to be shifted to the right about 3 feet and shifted forward across the creek about 1 foot. I was thinking a tow strap and snatch block over a branch on the far end and hoist it up with the atv winch, and maybe use the bucket on my dad's tractor to lift and then slide this end over a little bit.

This is an el cheapo habitat hook idea I came up with because I can't justify spending $100 on one at this time. I'm sure I'll pick up the real thing one of these days but for now I'll give this a try and see how it does this coming weekend. Not bad for less than $20.

Beautiful place! I missed this one when I checked back in. Similar in size to my farm. I’ll be following along.

Thanks for following along Weasel! Your place does have a similar size and shape. Maybe we can exchange tips on what works well on longer and narrower properties? I think you're likely sitting at a little higher elevation than me as I'm almost purely river bottom.

I am flat farm land, I think there’s a whole 12 feet of elevation change over the whole 40 LOL But yeah, for sure, I’m always looking for tips.

pinetag...Hope you can get that bridge repositioned and permanently in place. That is one nice build bridge with a lot of sweat equity.

Mine is super flat like that as well, although it does start to climb some as you get toward the northern end of the property. That's where the cottage is so I don't plan to hunt that section (about 6 acres). I have been hinging around the small rises thinking those will make for the best bedding locations. In most cases they are only a foot or two higher than the surrounding area.

Yea man. I was bummed to see it had moved but happy it was still in one piece. Worst case scenario, if I can't shift it back in its original position, then I will try to raise the near end, dig new holes to set it in, and then just cut the tree down on the other side and let stay where it is. Good news is it's up against a big tree on this end which should help prevent future movement in an event like that.

Got my first micro food plot finished. Cut about 12-14 trees out of the area, cleared some brush, seeded BW, and then sprayed. Got a camera on it so we'll see how things progress over the summer.

Also, had to cut the yard as it was looking rough.

Also, checked the smaller apple tree and it's starting to leaf out so I think it's going to make it after all. The picture not super clear.

And the bigger tree seems to be doing well.
