195 Acres Southern OK

I’ve got all 3 at the farm. These areas are definitely bermuda. Since it’s the only the growing right now, I’m going to nuke it. I was thinking I’d just overseed the area with cereal rye to get through the fall and winter with something on the ground

I’m so happy with the cedar removal progress we’ve been making this year. These areas were actually so thick that you couldn’t walk through them. It’s amazing how many great oak trees are hidden in there. This is a pretty dynamic process as I will continue to TSI these areas to allow a good mix of desirable trees to thrive as well as maintaining adequate sunlight to reach the previously barren first floor.

Nice, reclaimed land, looks like an oak savanna in the making. Do you have autumn olive on your property?

No sir, no autumn olive down here. Thank heavens. My biggest battles will be honey locust, Bermuda and Sericea lespedeza. I’m good to heavily oversees the areas with cereal rye this fall and let them go native next spring

Amazing what a few inches of rain will do! We got almost 3 “ since planting. My plots look better know than they did last November. Let’s just hope we get a little more rain here and there. The cereal grains are a few inches tall, clover is just showing itself and the brassica leaves are about the size of a quarter.

We were covered up yesterday evening. It was youth gun weekend, we opted for a little doe management. It was his first deer and he dropped it in his tracks.

Man this place is looking amazing, makes me wish more of mine was big woods as opposed to
8-9 year old cutover. Congrats to your boy on his first, I’m sure he’s hooked now.

2 of those plots were solid cedar and elm 6 weeks ago. I was able to get them broadcasted just in time for some rain. I was pleasantly surprised

Things are really looking good at my place. We had lots of buck movement this weekend. I had this guy grunting and pushing does around in front of me on another plot Saturday evening. We’ve got a few that look similar to him, I think I’d like to give them one more year. I rattled in a buck that is a bigger than him from about 400 yards away on Saturday morning. He was moving across a hay field and I grunted as loud as I could. He immediately stopped and took a few steps my way. After hitting the horns together, he dropped his head on a dead sprint heading my direction. He held up behind some trees about 40 yards out and I didn’t see him again. He is #1 on my list, he’s a main frame 10 with a split brow tine.
Best weekend of hunting in my place that I’ve had so far

This guy showed up Friday. I’ve got a neighbor on the river about a mile away that had pics of him all summer. I’d be thrilled to get a shot at him or just to see him in person. He’s the oldest and best buck I’ve seen

Nice looking place bearcat, I like to clean up like you did there. It makes you feel like you’re doing something worthwhile. What’s the story on the fallen stand ? Wind ?

Thanks DC. I’ve got quite a bit left to clean. I’ve got quite a bit of cedar to clear out. I’m hoping to make some headway on that project this off-season.

Straight line 80mph winds took that stand out. It was anchored, but didn’t help. Nothing in that direction to block the wind. It will get removed after the season.

More cedar removal. It’s amazing how fast the CTL with tree shear can work.
13 hours so far. This was 100% closed canopy of cedar infestation. Took down an estimated 400-500 trees. I’ve got so many big burn piles. We are having to stop clearing due to lack spaces for piles
I’m very excited about opening up these areas

You're building one heck of a property. Have fun with those burn piles

Yeah, the burn piles are a little intimidating. I’m waiting until it’s very green and humid out to light those suckers. It’s going to be a heck of a bonfire

Kurt- Don’t be too jealous, I have my place 3 years and have probably knocked out 10% of my cedar clearing goal.

More progress from late last week. This area was 100% closed canopy. I continue to be amazed by the trees we come across once we get the cedars removed. I need to take a pic of this tree from further back. It’s a magnificent tree

I’m really looking forward to how these openings respond to some spring rains and sunlight
