I would recommend against establishing a mineral site. The increased face to face contact increases disease spread. Once a mineral lick is established, it continues for many years.
Instead, I would recommend a temporary food attractant of some type that can be removed when the camera survey is done. MSU has established a protocol for doing camera surveys with attractants. They give you an estimate of the camera density to capture a high percentage of deer.
