Yea, I used cooking oil for that reason but i like the antifreeze suggestion. Something heavier than water causes them to get coated and sink fairly quickly.

I was able to take the day off so I could do a little food plot work. I limed, seeded, mowed (with a weedeater), and sprayed 2 plots and got some seed down on the third plot. The plan is to put some more seed down in a couple weeks and then again in Oct to layer the wheat and oats through the season. I still have some shooting lanes to clean up, cameras to hang, and last minute trail maintenance to do and then I'll be ready for the season.

Thanks lak! It was hot and humid but I got a fair amount done for once. It seems tree/trail cleanup has been my nemesis since last summer so it was nice to work on something different.

My mowing and spraying from two weeks ago has really knocked the weeds back so I fertilized and re-seeded the plots today with rain expected tomorrow and Monday.

I had another large oak come down across the pasture trail. Got my buddy to help make room enough for the four wheeler to get through and finished cleaning up all the trails. Hopefully no more downed trees after this.

The fall shift is starting! A couple of young ones so far and what looks like a right nice one from the tactacam, but it's hard to tell for sure on the thumbnail. I'll have to pull the card to verify.

It's still very dry here in Virginia. Our last rain was .10" and that was 11 days ago, but the plots are still growing.

Agreed. I thought it was him too as I was studying pics from last season. He has the same long, widespread brows and slight upturn toward the end of his right main beam.
He appears to be slightly taller and heavier this year.

Finally got some needed rains yesterday. Depending on the track of Hurrican Ian, we might get some more this coming weekend too. I just hope we don't go from one extreme to the other since the Atlantic has gotten more active recently.

Well gents, I've got some logging going on next door. I found out I have a 3rd neighbor that owns 350 acres that borders my lower 20 between the creek and the river. I always thought my cattle farming neighbor owned that section as well, but evidently it was an older couple that recently passed. I think the kids are selling the timber to pay for the inheritance tax. Initially I wanted to make sure the logger didn't come over my line so I went out to look around. It appeared the surveyor wasn't quite sure on the line based on the flagging he started and then stopped. I ended up getting in touch with the logger and found out they had some old documentation with unclear boundaries, so i supplied my plat, deed, and aerial photo with boundary lines to clear it up. He was able to find my survey at the courthouse and is now confident on the line and should have it marked soon. Additionally, after inquiring with the logger, I may end getting about 8 acres of my lower 20 logged as well so it could be a blessing in disguise! Best thing is they would haul the timber out through the neighbor's since that is how they're coming in. Bedding, food, and some money in my pocket with none of the mess of logging decks and skidder trails, except where i want them. I hope it works out!

First pic is the current work I've done to create bedding pockets. Second pic is the proposed logging area. Ideally this will not impact how I hunt and access along the river, only improve the quality of the hunting.
