My red osier dogwood is doing well. I should be able to take some decent cuttings at the end of this year and propagate some more in different parts of the property. I forgot the wire cutters when I planted it so I just had to roll up the excess, but I will be taking the fencing off at the end of the summer anyway.

It could very well be older, and that might be why I hadn't seen it until now (covered by debris). The thought crossed my mind that it might be the smaller buck I missed in 2019, but I don't think we would have missed searching for it as we covered that whole area plus my buddy shot a doe in that same vicinity less than a week later.

Me and a buddy took down some good trees today to turn my two small plots into a larger horseshoe shaped plot. Look at that sunlight coming in now.

Huntstand. It has lots of predefined marker types you can use to identify stands, camera locations, etc and then you can create your own like I did for plots and bedding areas.

I finished off the new horseshoe plot today. I cut the remaining seedlings/brush down with the brush cutter blade, cleared it to the side, raked, seeded, and then sprayed for good measure. I threw some Japanese millet around the edges and then alsike clover and birdsfoot trefoil in the rest of it. This combo should do much better than everything I planted last fall that died out with all the flood events. The lime I put down a few weeks back should help too.

First pic is the lower left of the horseshoe facing north, second pic is as you turn right along the bottom of the shoe, and the third pic is facing north on the right side.

We have a new habitat buddy coming to our household. We pick him up in a few weeks and after what I hope will be some good training, he will be able to join me on future excursions to the land. Introducing "Link"

I got out yesterday to do a little more chainsaw work to screen off some more of my access road by the river. I checked out my horseshoe plot and the burn down has begun as well as some germination of my alsike/trefoil mix. I hope it turns into a great, flood resistant plot this year.

We got our new little fluff ball home and he is adjusting well. His name is Link and he already likes chewing on deer antlers so hopefully there will be some good shed hunting in his future.

Been a while since I have been able to get out and do any sort of work, so today I started camoflaging some of my stands with the good old spray paint method. I also added some of the branch holders I made back during the winter to the platforms and seats, but I forgot to get a pic of them attached so I just included one from when I was spraying them. I think there will be some good concealment this fall once I stick some leafy branches in them.

My alsike clover is doing well, but I definitely need to get some sort of mower to help knock the weeds back this summer and fall.

I got two more stands done this morning. I put some old Christmas garland around the first stand to decrease my profile because it sits high up the ridge and can be hunted with many wind directions, so it gets hunted the most. I also added some of my limb holders and a few cedar branches as a test and put some pipe insulation wrapped in camo tape around the joints.
