I raked the leaf debris, seeded EW, and sprayed along the right hand side of the old road bed. I hope it turns into a good screen by the fall. For future comparisons sake, this is what it looks like currently.

I checked on my creek plot and the rye is getting tall and starting to produce seed heads. I also found some of the ladino clover coming in. I was surprised to find two beds in it but unfortunately the SD card in my camera wasn't formatted correctly so I wasn't able to capture any pics.

I got in a little bit of work this morning. I put up my last stand and cut the tree at the end of the bridge, but it got hung up in the canopy so I figure I'll just let the wind bring it the rest of the way down. Also did some hinge cuts up along the road bed to hopefully provide some more screening in front of the Egyptian Wheat I seeded last week.

I've got oats coming in along with the rye in my creek plot and the couple hazelnuts I planted are finally starting to put on some growth.

I jumped what I think was a buck in the upper plot behind the felled trees in the first pic. So recently I've found a couple beds in the creek plot and now I've jumped one along the upper plot. I think my habitat work is starting to pay dividends. Also, my chestnuts and crabapples appear to be doing well.

And the clover is coming in good in the upper plot for being frost seeded ladino.

Are keiffer pears tasty or are they really more of a wildlife fruit? I've got about 7 or 8 growing well up by the cottage.

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get out at all this weekend as we are preparing for an upcoming trip, but my daughter opted to go with me so we headed out for a short while this morning. She was excited because I had previously told her she could get her first driving lesson by going up and down the gravel driveway at the property. She asked if today could be the day. So for the first 15 minutes we went over some driving basics and she practiced a couple times without incident. I agreed to let her do it again right before we headed home as well. After the initial driving lesson, we went down to the bridge to see if the tree that I cut last weekend had come down with the wind. It had, so I sectioned it and rolled the pieces off to the side of the trail. I think it actually looks kind of cool, like trail markers in a state park. Unfortunately I had not sharpened the chain since my last use so I was not able to take the trunk down but I'll take care of that the next time I make it out. It was pretty dull by the time I got done with the sections. Things are coming along.

It looks like I might have captured a doe in the early stages of birth. Thoughts? I've never seen one relieve itself in this manner. Also caught a turkey on camera which I don't get too many of so that was kind of a nice surprise. I suspect the rye seed heads are a good attractant.

Kieffer is a great eating pear. Let them set for a while and they develop a nice flavor. Looking good.

Ha, it's a catch 22 I guess. I'm doing it the way my dad did with me...I was driving the hunt club roads when I was 13 and it helped me a lot by the time I was ready to get my license. I'd rather her be prepared and have some experience under her belt before getting out on the road with the lunatics. LOL.

Thanks lak! I'm liking all the green as well and she is definitely my little outdoors buddy. Hopefully I can get her out there a couple times this fall to try out the two man stand I just put up.
