House and Habitat build thread:

Family project day! When we were able to move into the new house we rented out our house in town, and left our flag at the place in hopes that our renters would fly it. Well, we didn't buy a replacement for our new home (time, money, etc...) and it's been bugging me. So today became build a flag day with the kids.
Our new flag now resides at the entrance to the place where a couple of proud kids can see it every day.

I guess the Olympics was the push I needed to get something done. We are addicted to watching the US kick butt in the games!

So guess what happens when you caulk windows before you primer over the mud... yep, it doesn't stick. Spent all night (not really but it felt like it) taping and caulking just to tear it all out and start again this morning.

Back to habitat. We had the fil's skid steer and auger out to set some new corner posts. Figured I would drill holes for everything I plan to plant this fall and next spring. First time I've used something other than a shovel and I liked it!

If it wasn't for my Auger we would have planted very few trees with actual root systems that need more than a dibble bar :)

I've planted hundreds of bareroot trees with a shovel. The most I did at one time was 50 Sawtooth. Drought hit that summer and every single one of them died. Now I don't do more than 10 or so and since using the auger I doubt I ever will do them by hand again. From keeping up with your thread I can see why you don't do it by hand!

I have planted thousands with a dibble bar :)

Thanks for the comments on the flag. Family projects aren't always hits, but this one was a home run. The kids really like it and I'm proud of them for taking an interest in the USA. They've decided it needs stars though so it's going to get modified before long.

Everything is looking great, you are a very busy man. Love the pallet flag, going to have to use your idea. Got some nice bucks around!

The grocery store bean plot is doing well. Apparently any dried bean you can buy at the store will grow well if you get it wet.

The frog pond is full (3.5in of rain in the last two days, normally we would be dry as a bone this time of yr). It has been an unbelievable joy for the whole family. Deer, birds, frogs, turtles, etc keep us entertained constantly. There is always something to watch.

Persimmon that I dierect and tubed this spring. It currently is smaller than the same batch that was seeded in rootmaker 18s. Not sure that means much though.
