"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Eli and I put a ladder stand together that we bought last year. We are going to practice shooting our bows out of it. The stand is in our backyard...

I had to start a brushhogging job today but I also had to go by "home 10" to do a couple things and while there I took these pictures of our plots that have been in since August 21st. The ground was powder dry when I planted and we got 1/16" of rain on it 10 days ago...

Pretty sad :(

The throw n now area is doing absolutely nothing. The green you see is weeds that are coming back...

I pulled a couple cards while Eli and I were trimming up stand areas and we daily have bucks showing back up that we haven't seen in months...

This buck has made a big jump from what he was last fall when I passed him up...

This is him last November 9th under my tree...

Things look horrible dry down there.
You and Eli are having lots of quality time together which is great for both of ya.
That buck made a huge jump this yr. I've heard it said that bucks make big jumps when there is a lot of quality native forage due to timely rains. I'm guessing that might not be entirely correct.

Hurt 9 is still roaming as well as a myriad of up and comers...

And a good sized group of does...really looking like it's going to be a good fall here on the hollow...

Well - We are doing better here on the Hollow up in the northern part of the county than is happening where our Home 10 is down in mid county. We actually got over 1.5" of rain here Friday night but we got zero ay home 10...again....

The deer pics are from up here on the Hollow and last year we had more rain than we ever have in recorded history and the habitat around here was really lush most of the summer. Drought started in July up here but down at Home 10 it started in May...

Without being able to pump water onto plots we are all subject to mother nature, but on the up side you have the bucks and that one turned into
a real dandy.

Hope the rain at the hollow keeps on coming. One rain is great but a few in a row really changes the cover and food in a hurry. Ours has rebounded from dust to beautiful green throughout the area over the last couple of weeks. It's a pretty sight.

Grandson Eli came out to stay with us this weekend so I took Saturday off and he and I did some lane clearing around the tree stands here on the hollow.

He got up in the tree and would tell me what needed to be cut...we trimmed up around 4 stands.

He looks happy to be prepping for the season, comes by it naturally no doubt. Nothing better than quality outdoor time with the grands.

Bucks look good. I hear you on the rain, we got quick shower yesterday. No measurable rain for 8+ wks now. Brassicas coming along but really slow. Overseeded everything with rye and clovers past weekend as my trump card.

Great stuff, Okie. Sorry the rain has not found its way to the Home 10.
When my son was about the age of Eli we put up a ladder stand in our back yard. We bow practiced a LOT, and had some great seasons as a result. I remember one shot we practiced. We put the target in a wagon with rope tied to handle. One would slowly pull the wagon in front of the stand while the other practiced. I will never regret the good time Adam and I spent in that back yard!

At least the antlers grew great this year for you! Been a while since I checked in, was hoping you got some rain. Looks like you & Eli are having a blast anyway. Good stuff brother.

That first buck is great, lots of character and good tine length. I hope you get some rain, we finally have some good rains forecast in the next week or so.

Mother nature can be fickle as she has been in that small section of our county...

Last year's good moisture and huge acorn crop is to be seen in this fall's bucks. The potential can be seen when nutrition is great!

I am glad you have come out of your dry time. The rain we got here on the hollow is a drop in the bucket. We have more chances later this week and may help us turn the corner. It will take several rains to bring home 10 back...

We are hoping to get a little trigger time over the next 2 weeks so he can be ready for youth season. He is excited about it...grandkids are grand for a reason!

It's tough this year. Rain is the only thing that separates us from either being a hero or a zero...I am going to have to replant home 10 if the forecasted rain does not show up by this weekend!

Those sound like good times indeed Milt...Eli has a bow but I need to make time to help him practice. I will make it a priority...

Great rains all last year and the biggest acorn crop in 50 years certainly assisted with that. Should be a bunch of real bruisers taken this fall! Hopefully rain returns soon to our land and we can salvage some of the plots...

Eli had a great time and so did I!
