I hunted the last 2 days of season and had no luck...I saw a few deer but not the only one I was after...interestingly enough the day after he came back out with the girls...
One of the bucks is in poor shape...
Lots of nice up and comers still around...
Here is why I don’t like early morning walks into our property...very difficult...on this morning I walked with a west wind along our east fence all the way to the back and then west to my stand. This stand is approximately 80 yards from the N fence...even though the wind was howling this buck knew something was up...
2020 ended with 1 buck killed on the hollow here by our grandson in our backyard back during the 3 day youth rifle season so 2020 was a strapping success in my book.

The problem right now is the snow is probably covering them...I am thinking once the melt gets underway will be a good time...maybe by Saturday. I definitely want to find them because I have found one side of this buck the past 2 years in a row.You are a better man than me! If I had proof my target buck had shed, you couldn't keep me out of there until I had them in hand!
When I was about 12 years old my grandfather bought me 3 steel traps for Christmas and showed me how to set them in a cubby set back up under some tree stumps that were on their side. We used sardines for bait. The very next day I had 2 possums and a civet cat. I was hooked and ended up trapping enough the year I turned 14 to purchase my first deer rifle, scope, sling, and ammo and had a bit left over. I have never caught a coyote, bobcat, or fox even though I have half heartedly tried. The coyotes tend to know what part of the properties is not safe even at night and I have never trapped back where I get actual photos of them. The camera back there gets checked once every month or 2 and I never go back there except to check it. The dogs are on their own with this deal if I do it because obviously the neighbors care not...You should take up coyote trapping. Can't remember if you've ever said that you've trapped or not, but it's really fun. Of course call your neighbors and let them know there'll be traps set on your place for the foreseeable future so that they have an opportunity to take action to protect their dogs.

The most important find to me is seeing where all those deer cross down in that creek bottom. The neighbors have a couple guys hunting and where all those tracks come from and go to is where they were feeding. I heard a lot of shooting over there this fall. I am going to set a stand between that spot and our south plot which is where the deer are headed when they come over. I will be looking for sheds shortly!Great pics Okie. You are always taking in info about your property! Hope you find target shed
Thank you NH. I need to get his deer to the taxidermist. The taxidermist I was using went up $150 over his last years cost which was already high for our area but I think I have whittled it down to a knew one not as far away. I want my grandson to go with me when we take it...Not sure how I missed this post, but a big congratulations to your grandson. And....it looks like you are going to have some prime shed hunting coming up. Good luck!

I appreciate the thought...I have been running my own dozer business for just about a year and I already have regulars...I have been on the same properties several times over the past year and when I am working near a county road I usually pick up business by people just driving by and seeing me working. I haven’t advertised in over 9 months. It rained overnight so no work today. I shed hunted for 1.5 hours this morning and found a several year old squirrel chewed nub at the base of a hollow tree. Weird year. Hopefully you get enough snow melt and better temps to look soon.Johnny, I wish you were local....I'd keep you busy on my place. I still need a bunch of snow to melt before I can even begin looking for sheds.... Still, we are turning the corner on winter. While I've got highs in the 20s tomorrow, its 30s and 40s for the rest of the 10 day forcast.
Oh yes but luckily of the 3 times I have stuck it I was able to get it out once by just putting blocks of wood under the blade enough to use the hydraulics to lift the tracks and put wood under the tracks and drive out, once pulled it out with my 3/4 ton, and then the last 1 that I just posted pics of. Mud and bottomless ground is a real problem! It's a bad feeling when a crawler sinks!
Well...habitat season is passing me by. I have very, very little down time because I chose a hobby that apparently is in great demand. My days off are when it is raining and on those days I am driving around quoting jobs.
A couple weeks back I was pushing a big stump and got into a soft spot and the dozer dropped right down. I couldn’t go forward because of the stump and I couldn’t back up because it was digging down with the track.
The guy I was working for was getting ready to call a wrecker and I said “hold on”. There is a tractor with a loader right there. He thought I was gonna get the tractor stuck too but I said all I need to do is roll the stump out of the way and I can get it out by using the 6 way blade I have.
I rolled the stump out of the way and popped it right out. I took this photo after I fixed everything...
I have been working on another place for the past couple of days clearing areas for fence rows and attempting to clear 5 acres of really wet ground that is not going well. I a. Working the high ground for now and may have to revisit the low ground later in the year as water comes up by just driving the dozer over the ground and any pushing at all ends up with the dozer sinking...
I have also come up with a little thing called bursitis in my right elbow...not fun...
I have gotten to look about 1 hour total for sheds and none found...odd year all around for me...

Thanks Steve...I appreciate it...Johnny, looks like you are staying busy. When you get Oklahoma finished, you can come help us out in KY!!!
I do...I will have customers tell me they only have x dollars and they need x amount of work done and when I see I may not meet the deadline for whatever reason I have finished it and when asked how many hours I just let them know it was the amount of hours they said they could afford even though I may have a couple more hours in it...I have a real hard time leaving something incomplete...Your issue is you probably take as much pride in work for others that you do for yourself. That equals repeat customers.
Good work

I’d like to see pics of that too, I’m a part of a family of jeepers. We head out to CO most summers.Pretty good bury on the dozer and nice recovery. Would’ve been a good YouTube video. We took jeeps 4 wheeling past wk. one of the guys said these things will go anywhere. I said yes they will....until they won’t. Stuck is stuck.

You know what they say about four wheel drive....it just gets you stuck further than a 2 wheel drive would get you.Pretty good bury on the dozer and nice recovery. Would’ve been a good YouTube video.
