"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Plentiful fish and a swimable creek are paradise for kids!

I really like the kicker buck that's sticking his tongue out at you.

I have 3 more days with them before school starts on Thursday so I think tomorrow I am taking them to a creek down in the wildlife refuge that my family always used to celebrate the 4th of July on. We would arrive at first gray light after driving 15 miles of poorly kept dirt road in whatever would carry us, break out the grills and set up card tables and the old metal folding chairs and make the day of it in the shade along the creek...miss those days as most everyone older has died and the youngers have different ideas about being social...

I stuck my tongue out at “Stickers” all last fall...I think he is a bit larger this year than last year.

We have family traditions that have died out like that also. You're making new traditions that reflect what you were raised on. Kudos to you!

That pic of the 8 pt with the 2 little bucks in daylight looks like someone tried a neck shot to me.
I thought the same thing. That particular buck was very regular on our place until the 2nd week of rifle and then he was just gone. I figured he got shot but looks like he was just somewhere recuperating...

2019 is the year that broke the drought for NE Oklahoma...not a week has gone by I haven’t had to mow. Clover has persisted through the summer. Looking at the weather map right now shows a rain going through all of Cherokee county while I am enjoying the cool weather in South Dakota...

Hope to plant some fall plots starting Thursday with another good chance of rain Thursday night and Friday.

Okie - How ya'll liking SD?
Loving it up here. Went to Pierre yesterday 1 hr 40 minutes to the closest Walmart. Everywhere we go is pretty. Have a nice 2 bedroom 2 bath house here on the reservation at Rosebud. Bonus is spending quality time with the wife! If you come up pheasant hunting if you don’t mind 1 more let me know about the pheasant hunting deal. We see them along the highway in different areas...

I am going to miss this place for a few days but will be back soon so I can listen to the bugling from the porch...got food plots to plant and lots of Brushhog jobs to take care of as well as getting our deer lease camp set up...

Like always you got some really great deer this year again Okie. Looks like you found some things to hold your interest in South Dakota as well.

Last year I let my plot go and only had the leftover clover and WR grain in my plot. It was still a great draw but around mid December there just wasn’t anything left so I decided this year I would convert part of the 2 acre plot to brassicas, wheat, rye grain, oats, and of course I threw in more clover. I used the chisel plow and then disk on about an acre. It was the areas that had more grass and weeds but it still had a lot of great clover. It was difficult for me to rip into some of that amazing clover but I felt it the best way to go. Of course in my planting I brought lots of new basket ball sized rocks up...

The other acre of the plot looks like this in clover...

And it is getting a lot of attention...

I grabbed my cards from my trail cams that are on mineral blocks and more and more of last years deer are showing up...the buck with his head in the feeder is this same buck 1 year later. Rack made a big jump from 2.5 to 3.5 but still exact same configuration, big fork and then a regular 4 point side.

This buck made a good jump as well but has the same rack configuration.

Big 8 looks the same to me as well...he was 5.5 in the first picture in 2017, 6.5 in the 2018 picture, and 7.5 this year.
