Live from the stand 2016!

Stronger SW wind and warming temps, wasn't expecting much, but been covered up with deer all morning.

Seen 4 yearling bucks cruising, 3 does and at least 5 minis. Have a little button buck bedded 30yds away.

Good sit so far, all this in the first hour of the hunt

Ok Johnny, I finally have a second & enough service to post. My view from this morning. God's artistry is all around!

Those last round of buck pics on my tour thread from last week were taken just to the right bottom of that top pic. There's a big thicket behind me where they bed. I thought I had everything blocked around my stand but a big deer walked right up to my tree before shooting light. It jumped back but didn't spook. I had Nose Jammer on my boots but that deer knew something was up.

It stomped a few times but never blew or took off. Between the thick cover & darkness, I never saw it. Sounded big walking in plus it was alone. Wonder if it was bedded close & heard something & came to investigate. There are fresh scrapes along the field edge.

Two of my buds were in camp and both saw several deer. Beautiful 40 degree morning.

I am back on stand. 4:31 pm central time. Wind has died but it is very warm in the low 80 range. Sitting a fresh stand I have not even been to this year. Plan to sit here in the morning as well because it has always been a great morning spot...

Chinquapin and red oak acorns everywhere...

Interesting tidbit...

For many years I had a hang on stand on the left trunk of this common based red oak in this photo (dead tree)

I have killed 30+ bucks from that setup over the years with the majority being bow kills and most every one at less than 15 yards and several almost directly below me.

I have also had encounters with all of the biggest bucks I didn't get from that same tree.

The tree has been dead now about 6 years and I miss it greatly...

The reason I hung a stand there is because I was easing through the woods many years ago with my recurve on November 4th and I watched a huge buck tending a doe within a few feet of this stand tree. Once they left I found a really nice rub on this small tree to the left of the dead snag in the following photo...

I say that stand on Veterans Day and that huge buck was headed right to me and then at 25 yards head on he all of a sudden turns around and slowly walks away never offering a shot...

Over the many next several years on Veterans Day every year I would sit this stand. In every case a huge buck would approach that I had never seen and in every single instance I would either not be able to get the shot with my recurve or the shot would be just past my comfort zone and I would miss.

I called it the Veterans Day curse stand :(

Just had a bobcat come by. A group of does in front of me did NOT like him. They chased him off snortin and stompin.

Well back to saving lives tomorrow. Even though I didn't score this weekend it was sure nice to get away from the city and sleep at the farm. Good fuel for the brain. I don't know about the rest of the week. Weather is going to be really warm. I might do a few morning hunts. Off next weekend also but forecast is calling for highs in the low 80's. Might just let the place rest and wait for cold weather. I pulled all my cards and all mature bucks are still extremely nocturnal. Very surprised but most my bucks are still in groups of 3's. I don't ever remember still seeing bachelor groups this late in the year.

Good luck to all

I was thinking the same thing. I had frost on my roof at home yesterday morning but sweated my butt off at the farm yesterday and today. We moved a ladder stand today and did some clearing with the chainsaw around another stand yesterday. I think I will give my place a rest also till it cools down.

Back on stand for day 3 of 9...

This mornings views.

Straight ahead facing NE.

Finally movement! At 9:00 a doe eased down a trail to my south and then 5 minutes later I saw a buck about 75 yards out off my N shoulder. Nice 3.5 yr old...

Not exactly live but...I was so aggravated last night I didn't post. Had the buck on the right in the pic at 130 yds headed my way with 30 min of light left. Picked my ML up , when I eased off the safety the gun fired. Needless to say all the deer cleared out. Time for a new ML.

That's a really dangerous situation. What muzzleloader do you have?
