Live from the stand 2016!

Your best shot at getting that deer is a major cold front dropping the temps as low as it gets in your area and then trying to catch him on food unless the rut in your area is this late... my cameras here showed every big buck that is left out in daylight on food when temps dropped into single digits a few days ago...

Ruth here varies from Jan 1 on. Hoping one of our hunters is right place, right time

Headed out on Doe patrol with the pistol this afternoon. Too windy for a bow sit I think. Last day for me to hunt. Bummer

Good luck USC country. I'm enjoying some coffee but plan to head out in a little myself. Reports around here have been seeing deer between 1-3 south of Columbia.

Last hunt. I did not feel like climbing in the rain so got in a box stand. I'm not crazy about road hunting but I'm here. It's been drizzling all morning with a slight breeze. Temps are a nice 46.

Shot a doe. Hit her, but not well. Found a little bit of muscle/fat but no blood. Girlfriend drove 45 minutes to bring dog to me, and he couldn't find anything either.

This is a disappointing way to end an otherwise great season. I shot 2 bucks and 4 does. I'm thinking this doe will survive, but the thought of her suffering out there right now is a bad feeling. The stand set up was great, I just made a bad shot. Frustrated and disappointed in myself.

The hunt itself was pretty cool. It was nice to be in a new spot, and the deer came out where I thought they would. The first doe that came out would have been an easy shot, but a little spike came out and chased her off. The second doe that came out was antsy from the beginning. She actually ran off twice snorting, but both times I snorted back at her and she came right back! I've always snorted back at deer but never had one come in like that.

Will look for buzzards on Wednesday and start working on winter projects.

Deer Down in Bibb County

My most consistent hunter, Alan, used his new Christmas present (Muzzle loader) to get a nice nine point today at Mandy Hollow. The story is over at my property tour.
