Beautiful rain falling, and more to come this weekend!
We got 2”, everyone in the general area reported 1-2”. The popular, local weather guru is predicting 7-10” this weekend, if he’s right, that would be the biggest rain since May of 21. We’ll see what happens. I’d gladly give up a few days of hunting to see my in-law’s ponds get filled back up.What did u end up getting?

Yea we got about a 1" yesterday here in missBeautiful rain falling, and more to come this weekend!
We had a little rain here today also, and just like your area, we have had quite a lot for late June and early July. Unusual for us.Bit more rain fell today. Total of 4" in last 5 days. Its been relatively steady this summer for the first time in 3 years. Good timing as the oak seedlings are still doing well. Year one may be successful with minimal handwatering on my part. Crops in area looking great too. Thankful here.
Thought I would update this post. There have been continued rains and this country is an unusual shade for August. My YTD total today is 22.10" after the last 2.35" downpour on August 11th. My CRP in places is approaching eight foot tall with most thigh high. I got my food plots planted a month later than last year, so have a lot of weeds in them and they aren't as tall, but they are great. All but a very few milo fields in the region are headed and one field of short maturity was starting to get some color. The dryland corn look fantastic. Here at the Ponderosa, we are blessed with awesome moisture. Most has come in the past three weeks, after a slow start and no snow during the winter. My annual rainfall here is a mere 17.50", but I am sitting at 12.20" YTD. The pastures are green. In this area the faucet could shut off without warning and take forever to turn back on, but I am thankful and blessed. Praise the Lord for the blessing and bless all the critters.
An incredible year for sure!Thought I would update this post. There have been continued rains and this country is an unusual shade for August. A friend asked me to check his pasture for him while he is out of town, so a made the trip to do that. Normally, in August, his pasture would be dry and brown, but not this year. That draw is a dry drainage that does not have water, but he had a good rain also and it was running some. In the foreground is Snow on the Mountain. His pasture has lots of it in bloom and lots of common milkweed. I did kick up one quail pair while there.
That's a nice picture of KS country, looks exactly like the artists drawings of how the prairie looked with the old time wagon trains rolling throughThought I would update this post. In my observation Texas is like the Holy Lands, good soils and it is an area that gets totally transformed if there's rainfall. We had one of the wettest years in recent history, but late July/early August here just gave us a reminder that summer can be dry, we just had a 3 week drought broken today, a solid inch to get fall plots started.I cannot remember a year that we had this much rain in August. Everything is green. Even my food plots, except that the deer ate them down and then the weeds took over, but I got green, healthy weeds !![]()
