Drought and Survival

I flew into Denver this week and it looked like a desert there too. Not just the fields, but the pastures looked 100% dead.

Pastures are shot around here too, some people have begun feeding already; my in-laws will begin next week.

We got missed last week to the east, this week they say we’re gonna get missed to the West. Surprise, surprise… I HATE the weather here. Give us floods, give us severe thunderstorms and hail, let a tornado take our house, we can rebuild. Just don’t give us year after year of drought.

IF the most recent maps hold true, which I'm 99% sure they will because they ALWAYS hold true when it's bad news for us, we will be missed by the coming system again. It will rain west, north, and east of us, literally going around us like a sideways rainbow. The curse continues... Of course, they MAY be wrong???? Yeah right....👎

If u need to make your own first thatch layer and you’re having trouble sourcing enough duff, you could always make it.

We missed the rain last night completely. A little bit of a cloud burst popped up this morning and the radar said it dumped some rain on us. Apparently the radar lied again. Looks nice and crispy still. :(

Missing more BIG rain to the west and north tonight. If we don’t get some real rain tomorrow evening we’ll be done for a while. It’s our last chance.

Somehow, by means beyond me, we missed every rain that has come through the past 3 days. I can’t hardly believe it. I thought for sure we were going to get a good one this morning. People at church just said, it doesn’t rain here anymore, no one is even surprised anymore when rain dies at our doorstep.

They’re saying there is a possibility the hurricane will make a sharp left turn and head our way, that would be GLORIOUS. It’s been a LONG time since we’ve received some hurricane remnants.

They freaking took our rain chances away. I guess the hurricane isn’t coming our way now. This sucks… I was going to throw seed tomorrow too. I’m so sick of this.

The extended forecast across the board for SE Kansas = no real rain all fall or winter, and not even a chance for a drop until November. This drought will not go away. Instead of throwing seed, I’ll be watering trees again today. Such a fun way to spend a day off.

4-5 in since Tuesday from a stalled front. Hurricane remnants will move in and prob top us off near 10”. They had said we needed 17” to bust drought so…. Feast or famine. May give jump to clovers and WR for last min growth before Oct freeze. Brassica too late. Heavy acorn crop which is good albeit they have been aborting early.
Next time I pray for rain I’ll ask for it to be spread out over a month or so!!

We haven’t seen rain like that since May of ‘21.
