I Always assume drought and flood are just around the corner. I don’t have the capability to water. I have to get my water over the winter and trap it all with mulch. That goes for gardens too.
I’m gonna be about 5” deep in wood chips this year. Very good chance my soil never gets rain this year, and what does fall will hang up in the woods chips.

Last fall and this spring I’ve been adding a second shot of wood chips to stuff that hadn’t been mulched in a couple years.

People don’t expect weathermen to be right, at least I don’t. What good is a seven day forecast if they change it the second day ? We were supposed to get rain today but it all went N of us, but it took the tornado activity with it so I didn’t mind much. I planted three plots yesterday and the day before and the ground was plenty damp. I documented it in my “Leaning” thread. My home plot was nearly too wet to plant on the lower side.

I get anxious if I have less than 4 yards laying around. Had 18 brought in last fall and I’ve been hauling and spreading. Probably burned up a quarter of it already, and I’ve got more to do.

The final round finally got us overnight, better late than never. Ended up with 1.8". Not a pond filler, but we'll take it. Still need real runoff before summer, or it's gonna be really bad for my in-laws. They still have 4 large ponds that are extremely low and will dry this summer if something doesn't change soon.
You should be getting nailed right now.

Pretty good rain, it is lingering for a little bit this time, which is nice! Rivers are still up big from the rains to the north this past weekend.

We have had record flooding in what we call “Deep East Texas” which is S of
Lufkin to Houston. Record water release from Lake Livingston, the Trinity River as well as the Neches River have flooded US 59 below Livingston. It is clear now, but yesterday morning it was closed. This is a major route from Houston N to Texarkana, etc. Much of the city of Livingston was under water. I haven’t seen that in my lifetime. More is on the way, when it rains it pours ! There used to be a much revered weather guy in Dalls named Harold Taft, he had a saying, “droughts are followed by floods, and floods are followed by droughts” I’m praying he’s wrong this time.
