You know...late winter and early spring seem to be my busiest time because I try to get so much done in that time frame and I usually get overzealous...
Ordered 500 bare root seedlings from our state nursery last fall to be delivered 2nd week in March. Figured I would have most everything else completed by then and could plant trees over about a weeks time and be done but that was before porch season started up...
Got the big one done and then had to stain it...I truly hate to paint and stain
Once that one was done we started the back porch which was just going to be a simple porch...
Then we decided it needed a roof...
This porch is a precursor to the back deck that we are going to build soon that will be 44' x 12' with a 22' half roof...gotta save money for that...
In between I was planting the 3 different evergreen type trees I got. 50 Rocky Mountain juniper as a road screen. Check out those roots!
100 loblolly pines and 100 Virginia pines followed...roots on everything were amazing!
Of these 250 planted I have only had 1 loblolly to die on me even though we had several days with no rain, 90 degree temps, and incessant 30-40 mph moisture sucking hot winds...last year I got all my pines from MDC and lost over 1/2 of the 300 I planted almost immediately because they had poor roots...I have much better luck with okie trees...
Last year I planted a couple kieffer pears near our home with no protection. These came in plastic bags with mulch over the roots from Atwoods and we had them about 3 months before I ever planted. Didn't know if they would make it but they did. The first one has been deer browsed some...
Hinge cuts are starting to green up...
