Triple C's Place

Updates been few and far between. Life is busy. Enjoyed a rare treat at the farm this weekend - SOLITUDE! Arrived Friday afternoon with plans to spend a lot of time on the tractor. When I left this morning I'd logged over 8 hrs of tractor time. Started at daybreak on Saturday bout 6:45 and stopped around 12:30. It got hot by noon. Started again this morning at same time and finished around 9:30. Mowed all but one of the smaller food plots as well as about 1/3 of the interior roads. Put my ear buds in a was serenaded by Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Drake White and a host of oldies. My fav right now is "Round Here Buzz" by Eric Church. His latest album is really good.

Always nice to see deer in the plots. This is the lower lower plot. Wouldn't know it by the height of the crab grass but there's quite a bit of white clover in here.

The plot below hasn't been planted in 2 years. The dog fennel was well over head high before i started. The edges where choked with sweet gum saplings, some 12 to 15 ft tall. Took my time and finally got it mowed and used the FEL to clear much of the edge on one side. Had a good bit of left over slash from thinning I had to clear out of the plot after mowing.

Made my way over to the hour glass plot. It is full of clover amongst the weeds. These 2 little piggies wouldn't leave the plot while I was mowing. They just moved away from the tractor on each pass. Shoulda packed a pistol!

Cleared the trail round the duck pond. With all the rain we've had this summer everything is green.

The water hole Brooks put in last March is bout half full right now. The tree tubes in the background are The LLC's grafts from his farm - Yates and Horse apple. All growing very well.

Finished mowing in the cabin field.

I'll finish with my favorite pic from the weekend...moon rising as night fell last night. Whisper quite...drink in hand by fire pit and soaking it all in. All was good with the world. Everybody needs a happy place.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! He IS alive. Was starting to get worried buddy.
Ha! Don't think I've ever traveled more than I have this year. Crazy busy with work but not complaining. Better than the alternative. Looked at date of last update and thought the same as you...been to long! But things are about to start picking up and I hope to be posting more. We'll be spraying the plots at the end of this month in preparation of planting. Keeping my fingers crossed that the rain continues. Last year was no fun.

By the way...when do I remove the tape from my grafts?

Probably can now. I did mine in the pots three weeks ago. Next time you're there take a picture of one and text me. By the way, about to send you a text.

Well yea the place looks great and glad you had some good time, but I've been waiting for those Alaskan pics.

As you requested...
Had the opportunity (thanks to a very generous boss), to go on my 1st fly fishing adventure to Alaska. Location was Nondalton, AK, about a 50 minuet flight from Anchorage in charter plane. Place and lodge where amazing. www.newhalenlodge.com. Had a last minute cancellation from one of the guys so Brooks got to join us. Pic of scenery flying from Anchorage to Nondalton.

Spent the 1st afternoon practicing with the guides on greyling.

Then we got after a whole bunch of these guys. Multiple 20 plus inch rainbow's on a different river each day.

Caught a few of these.

Brooks landed a nice sockeye fresh out of the ocean. Still bright silver.

Need to work on my roll casting but got the hang of it.

Lunch was stream side...fresh salmon filets over a fire. Guides were amazing and hard working. This guy had this prepared in about an hour from finding wood to start fire to having coals to cook over. All that "stuff" was in the boat behind him. It ate good!

And...the highlight was sharing the rivers with these. On one particular river we must have seen 20 or more brown bear, often within 30 feet of us. Never did get quite accustomed to their presence. Guide's assured us they had no interest in us but sheez!!! Only one encounter that was a bit unnerving. A young injured male was in the river as we were floating down. He couldn't use his back leg. And he wouldn't leave the river. We were on a collision coarse. Guide paddled raft to sand bar and started yelling at the bear. He finally went up the bank. Definitely the trip of a lifetime!

Thanks for those good pictures TC. Seeing those fish cooking made me super hungry. Such a great fishing trip. You guys are making memories of the finest caliber.

Awesome. I was trying to be patient and your farm does look great but I wanted these. Thanks. I've fished and hunted a lot of Canada and the wilderness is so addicting. Headed to Alaska next yr I think. Glad you had great time. Well deserved I'm sure.

Those char you practiced on look a lot like greyling. LOLOLOLOL
Tommy...You know your fish. Had char on my mind which we caught a few on the rivers. Greylings were fun. Used a dry mouse for those greylings. Interesting that we used dry flies on the greylings but not on the trout. Salmon beads with bare hook about 2 inches below bead with a strike indicator about 3 ft above bead.

Thx for the comments guys. This was my 2nd trip to Alaska. It is truly an unspoiled, outdoorsman's paradise. The little community of Nondalton is comprised of about 175 people - mostly natives. With the exception of one river, all others were accessed by using float planes each day. Days consisted of breakfast at 7:00, then climbing into a float plan outside the lodge and flying across tundra and between mountains to some remote lake. Guides prepped rafts and then we spent the day on the water floating the rivers fishing mostly out of the raft and occasionally from sandbars where we waded.

Good to have you back. Always love Alaska fishing reports. It's a very special place. There nothing like fishing amongst big bears to know you're alive. Very impressive rainbow. My favorite remains flyfishing for Kings in the deep "s" turns of smallish rivers. 40lb Kings under those conditions is hand to hand combat.

3C that looked like an incredibly nice adventure! Glad you found time to be able to do it!

Your farm looks great as always and you explain it all out very well so that in my minds eye I can just see what pictures don't show. Thanks for the updates!

LOLOLOL. I hear ya buddy. If you weren't my friend I wouldn't have said anything. LOL. I've never caught a greyling but sure would like one for the wall. Have caught a few char---lake trout and brook trout. Would like to add the arctic char and dolly varden to that list too.
