My wife doesn't believe me that the smaller sheds are worth more since they are harder to find.

Finally got a little time to run the chainsaw in the open bottom on the east side. Maybe it will give a turkey a place to nest that won't go underwater.

Back in KC we put up a little habitat for the bluebirds. Hoping to hire one to watch over the garden this spring.

Absolutely the little antlers are worth more! The finder of the extremely rare and elusive "button buck shed" is the grand prize trophy winner.

Running a little behind on posting. Youth turkey season was a little chilly (25F overnight). With the social distancing we were camping. Called in one that hung up at about 65-70, pretty slow.

The rest of my turkey season was equally slow. Just not holding any turkeys on this place. Population is way down but I think a lot of it contributed to the weather. Working on another cold wet spring.

I did pick up a moonglow pear to add to the collection. This puts me with two kieffers, an ayers, the moonglow, and two bartletts that have a little of the rest grafted on.

This old food plot is probably 5 year old clover and a lot of "other". Sprayed the first week of season. Two weeks later it was pretty yellow.

Ran the tiller over too wet of ground. Spread 50# NWTF soybeans, some milo, and sunflowers.

Same mix in a strip along the CRP.

The power line crew had been through with the mulcher so the rest of the milo and some sunflower got spread through here. Going with the "sow and hope" method. IF it doesn't work I am just out the cheap seed from the NWTF. Less stobs this round so I am hoping to keep at least the south side of this brushhogged for a fire break. The mulcher makes the AO look pretty for a little bit but in the past has just pissed it off.

Just got a text that my new employees are on site! Since I am a absentee land manager, a local bee keeper is doing all the work. My uncle claims he had some of the honey from some other hives that they have set up on a farm with a lot of AO and it was the best he has ever had. When all of the AO, clover, CRP forbs start blooming they shouldn't have to fly very far! Looking foward to seeing this setup in person this weekend. Also told the kid we might scare the squirrels a little to make up for our slow turkey seasons.

Got some mowing done last weekend but that was about it. Wheat and clover are looking good. Beans are popping very slow since it’s been so cool. Ended up with a couple of squirrels but I forgot how hard that hunting is with full leaf. Sunday we got enough rain to raise the pond about 6 inches!

They added a box to each hive since my last visit. The lady said she sampled some of the comb and the honey was outstanding. Looking forward to a bottle eventually.

The bean plot I mudded in has some beans, milo and a ton of ragweed. $10 well spent.

Should raise some birds. Wheat looks really good, but it worries me that it is untouched.

At least a few of the beans I broadcasted took off. Not sure what I will do with this plot in the fall. Might just overseed a brassica mix and let her go.

The kids plot the wheat has seen a little more action. The clover he spread barefoot looks pretty good. It has been a clover year in NEMO, I mowed my other clover plot last time I was up and it is knee high again. Again brood habitat should be covered.

When it comes to honeybees and the murder hornets...I have to wonder why they don’t just setup a screen to filter the bees to the hives while the larger hornets can’t pass thru? Something like a hardware cloth type fabric encasing the entire area around the hives?

Probably the best blackberry season I have ever seen. Me and the youngest picked 18 cups in just under two hours.

And I would say we were at least a week early!

Many enjoyable memories made. A great lesson for the grandchildren on the ability to walk out into the wilds and harvest something good. We enjoy berrying with the family, as many get eaten as go in the bucket. Blackberries are good, and raspberries are king around here.

Couple weeks behind on posting these but..
Trying to keep the powerline brushhogged after they mulched it last spring. Going to pull the disk through here late winter for my north fire break to keep the smoke a ways from the bees.

Carved in another ladder. This one is over looking the west bottom of beans. Could yield a 10 yard bow shot or a 300 yard rifle poke.

I sprayed my over grown bean plot with RU and spread some oats and rye back in August. Very little rain to wake up the grains but there were more beans in there than I thought. If the winds right this field will be were I am sitting in a couple of weeks.

For some reason I have a lot of what I think is Indian Grass pop up this year in the CRP. Pretty decent patches too, must have been a good year for it. Hopefully it will spread as fast as all the serica I spent a couple of ours spraying pastureguard on!

They harvested the honey, said the bees had done very well. The beekeeper gave me a care package so I should be stocked up on honey for a while.

Found a doe that held still. Brought in some help on tracking and hauling. Saw 6 bucks, one that I probably should have shot but it was 45 min into my season!

Had a pretty good hunt on our annual South Dakota pheasant hunt. Limits all three days. Hunted in 3-4 inches of snow the last day.
