The kid got one last morning hunt in last weekend. No horns.

We got a late start, but the view walking in wasn’t bad.

Time to switch to the predators and the small game. I am too skinny for late season bow hunting. I did step on a covey of quail that probably had 25 birds in it while looking for rabbits. Couldn’t bring myself to shoot any even though I saw 25 times more quail than rabbits!

Went up to celebrate Christmas with the family. Tried to call in some predators with the fox pro, but no luck. The hound hunters were running the coyotes pretty hard all weekend. I did pull the two coon below out of a den tree with a coon fight sound. The boy wanted to set some traps Saturday night and we pull in three more, one was a pretty little cinnamon coon. Egg eater none the less so it won't be getting any bigger.

I did set the caller down RIGHT on top of about a 12 bird covey of quail. That will test your bladder control! Still don't have enough to bring myself to shoot any but we are getting closer.

I agree with every egg eater must go. I love to turkey hunt.

I've had a picture of four coons on camera and I've caught three of them the last two nights. I must not have many coons this year because I have eighteen sets and have only caught those. I will run the,for a week before I pull them though. Just in case some move in.

I was surprised I went 3/13 traps as cold as it was last weekend. The time to really put a dent in coons is a warm up after a long cold spell like we have been having. When it is real cold they den up and don't move much. The call can be pretty fun when you get 4 or 5 rolling out of the same den tree. With pretty much no fur market it is easier to use the shotgun on those setups! Hopefully this year will eat up a lot of fur inventory and the market will come back a little. I used to trap 50-75 a year off of a piece of MDC land that I had a permit for. Now I only trap to protect my birds.

Over a foot of snow and -15 degrees up at my place this morning. I am sure my milo has been picked clean by now. I haven't been up to the farm since end of December. Feel sorry for all the critters trying to make a living up there. Glad it is not any farther north. Supposed to be close to 60 by the weekend, got to love MO weather.

With all the weather and kids activities I hadn't made it up to my place since the last week of 2018. Apparently my turtle population did not fair well over the winter since I had a couple of shells and a bunch of vegetation clogging the pipe. I put the waders on and opened the flood gates.

A little irrigation for the all ready too wet crop ground. The drain tile had it pulled down a little by the time I left.

24 hours later and I had dropped a 1.75 acre pond a foot.

This big old tree might have got too hot during last springs fire. Probably be a good mushroom hunting spot.

Some of the cedar thickets were definitely improved.

Spent some time opening up some of my trails. Treated the AO with 50% gly.

Hing cut area. Maybe I helped a quail or 2 through the rough winter. Didn't see a one during my failed shed hunt.

This is the swampy area down by the creek. It could use a little attention with the saw. It was all I could do to keep the kid out of the water.

Probably the last year for the kids old blind. Needed half a dozen cable ties to patch her up on this install. The blind and plot have been so lucky for him I hate to change anything!

This little kitty likes to get it's picture taken. Only had two in the daylight.

This guy looks like he had a rough winter.

Even with all the toothy stuff I had on camera I still showed a few turkeys. Even one bearded lady.

Spent the weekend looking for one of these.

Main reward for the weekend was learning some patients! Called in a few but getting an 11 year old holding still and pointing in the right direction may be more than I am capable of! We will be back after them in a couple of weeks, and I am bringing the benelli.

Youth season must have been the time. Hunted last weekend and didn't have a bird on the place. Heading to KS next week to try to find another Rio or two.

I have some DCO’s growing in my backyard setup. Not sure how the skink got in the pot but if he is still in there tonight I’ll have to help him out.

Non Stop rain sure is going to be hard on the turkey poults. We needed to have a good hatch. Also looks like it will be all fall food plots this year at the playground. Heading up this weekend to see how much of a swamp it is.

Definitely going to need the brush hog if it ever drys enough to mow my paths.

Yep hasn't seen a mower yet = there is all sorts of stuff growing in my clover plot! At least it was still above water line last I knew!

Blackberry season - 14.5 cups in an hour and a half. Another week it would be too easy. The kids need to work for them!

Short 24 hour trip up but I spent about three hours with the BIL’s 15 foot brush hog polishing the pond lot. So busy I forgot to get any pictures! Grass, Forbes, and little trees have grown VERY good this year with all the rain. Now after my second trip up all summer I feel like I am starting to get it whipped back into shape.

Got about three acres total of wheat and oats put in last weekend. Just need a little rain

I made the kid sew his own clover on his lucky plot

Since the crops didn’t get in on the bottom I have 30 acres of turnips and radishes, should be interesting
