The Playground

Yes they mixed the seed in with the fertilizer and spread it with a floater truck with a 70 foot sling pattern. I know where I’ll be looking for antlers next spring.

After he got his work done I let him get the 410 out

Jumped some potential out of one of the plots. Could be a good season!

Nice buck, looks like a shooter! I'm in NEMO and I found one dead on my farm last weekend in Lewis County. The locals say it's bad again...

I haven’t found any on my place. Heard that some people had. Ponds were down about a foot, could be a bad EHD year.

a foot down isn't bad. That must be about normal isn't it? the years SD had it so bad ponds were about dried up.

Should have plenty of winter food with 25-30 acres of turnips and radishes!

The wheat looked better than I thought it would on just one rain since planting. Of coarse I fixed the moisture problem when I climbed into a stand to hunt = 12 hours of nice slow rain. 6 hour sit only saw 1 spike buck and 1 bobcat. Both were safe.

Upgraded the kid to a new blind that I won years ago at a NWTF event and had never set up.

I was hoping to see this guy but no luck. At least he was still around 2 days before season started. Looked at both ponds and a little water hole and didn't find any dead deer, maybe I dodged the EHD bullet this round. The 3 inches of rain should hide the mud lines.

Remember like 15 minutes ago when I was worried about the mud line on the low ponds? Now I am worried the bottoms full of turnips will be under waist deep water by the weekend! Got to love Missouri weather..............

The kid got an 8 pointer Saturday during youth season. Weather was perfect, deer movement was very slow. Saw 3 deer all day. Luckily the last one suited him. Made a good shot with the little 300 blackout AR he uses. About 150 yards right at last light. Buck made it over a big ditch off in the timber and piled up about 50 yards from the hit. He was pretty excited, this is the first one he has shot not in "his" food plot.

Some humans wanted some of my turnips off the bottom, there are still plenty there to feed the deer = about 25 acres.

Finished rifle season taking a couple of does off another property. Didn’t see a buck on the playground after the kid shot his. Hopefully the turnips pull them in for black powder season at the end of the year. Based on my cameras the population is down quite a bit.

The brother in law had been finding a few while combineing. If there were any dead in my stretch of river they would have washed off in the flood that followed the dry stretch, damn MO weather! Might be a bone yard when I burn the CRP next spring. We did find a 150" buck dead on another chunk of ground but with his proximity to the gravel road my guess would be excessive light and 22 cal lead poisoning. Oh well on to rabbits, squirrels and predators.

I feel your pain with EHD. We got hit also. After most of or mature deer went MIA during the middle of October I reached out to one of my neighbors and he sent pics of some bucks he found in some ponds on his place and he said they were from the time frame they went missing off my cameras. We will bounce back but it's going to take a few years to get back to where we were.

That’s horrible...I don’t think you are that far from me!
