I’ve got my compound bow in the blind but still would like to see him next year.
It is some good cover. It’s a blend of switch, Big Blue, Indian and Little Blue. He was traveling a lane I mowed specifically to bring them close for bow hunting. A 23 yard shot. I had my bow but would rather wait a year and see a 150 possibly turn into a 190.That's some seriously great switch cover!
Enjoying the thread! just a curiosity, your mature buck looks about the size of a 1 year buck here in Finland (160-180 pounds or so) could that be some genetic variation or is it climate perhaps? our moose and bear are dwarves compared to those in canada/alaska but white tail reach around 350 pounds here with an average of 280, they are an introduced species here i believe in the 30s
No i went off the weight mentioned for the first deer in this thread minus the rack, in the state he was hanging there without the guts, skin and head he was 78 kilo or about 160lb this was pretty early in the season so he didn't have his winter fat yetHowdy neighbor! Are your one year olds about the size as the deer that Mennoniteman posted in Post #30 of this thread

oh well, just curiosity on my part, the size of the buck doesnt reflect on the skill of the hunter, was just surprised to see bucks with racks like in the same weight class.Yep, it must be the climate that makes your deer so huge....or it could be the genetics....or it could be nutrition.... Heck, I just don't know. Congratulations!
That's one big deer! Just curious, what does the EU have to do with regulating wolves in Finland?oh well, just curiosity on my part, the size of the buck doesnt reflect on the skill of the hunter, was just surprised to see bucks with racks like in the same weight class.
here is a mature one someone else caught. This year i have to live and let live as the wolves have wreaked havoc on their population in my area. Gotta thank the EU for letting 50 strong superpacks roam unchallenged. And ofcourse the lynx, related to your bobcat but bigger and accustomed to larger prey.

The EU lays down union wide guidelines and restrictions. The Cityboys in the EU have clasified the wolf as a strictly protected species based on total number and trend in union wide rise or decline of the species. This ofcourse doesnt take individual countries into account. Similarly a country like Finland may want its reserves (basically every man of fighting age thanks to universal conscription) to be able to aquire a military rifle to train with and bring to the front if SHTF so long as they satisfy basic requirements wich go for any weapon: no relevant mental problems, no criminal record, no bad behavior(drunk disorderly etc). That's one big deer! That's interesting! It sounds very much like communism in the Soviet Union in the early years, dictating from a central location leading to starvation. Anyway, I'd love to visit the Scandinavian countries sometime. I know just enough German to understand a little bit of the languages, and I've always been intrigued by the area. The EU lays down union wide guidelines and restrictions. But EU then throws its weight down and Finland has to fight them to get a compromise, as such i can have a semi auto valmet m88 with 10rd box mags but not an RK62 with 30 round mags.
essentially the EU pressures governments to adjust or design its regulation to fit within the policy of the greater EU but cant really outright force them to.
but then the green hippies burst out crying in public all over the EU and gather in any country they dont like to have their morality drumcircle and with us Finns men being good Finns we do what we always do in war or peace, grind our teeth, voice our opinion strongly and consisely, then go back to doing what we do. Turns out crying for months has more effect on politics. And the threat of EU sactions piled on top makes it a done deal.
That is a condenses version of the political game played between the EU and individual countries, particularly nordic countries. Sweden just flipped them the bird and said come at me on multiple occasions, wolves are culled there as usual.
So a weak government, a people accustomed to weathering storms in silence, hippies crying loudly. And the EU making regulations that only make sense in western europe and pressuring memberstates to conform "or else"

Nope, I can't read that Finnish, what I meant more was German and Swedish are close enough that I could order some items off a menu in a restaurantDont get your hopes up in my neck of the woods

I also speak Dutch, German and Swedish tho. Family ties. Iam not of Finnish heritage myself.
Isn't that a great feeling when one of your bigger bucks that you thought was gone shows up again! Can't believe what just happened. Out of nowhere the other 10 point I've had just ran across cousins field and onto my land. Tore a limb completely out of a cedar and threw dirt 15 feet. Exact same scrape I killed the 150 two years ago. Unbelievable.
Closest buck in pic below. Have now passed both of them.
