Live from the Stand - 2024

That’s a buck of a lifetime in western NC!

Good luck up there, hard to believe it’s Mid-late October already.

I’m leaving today for a three week work trip, will need to see a constant stream of deer on this thread to keep me sane!

A big congratulations on your deer and keep safe on that trip.

I have been hunting quite a bit but have yet to see the one that trips my trigger. This morning I had a rutty old buck walk by that stunk so bad I could smell him at 20 yards…it’s time to be in the woods!

Always good to have one of these guys come by for a sit to ruin last hour of bow hunt. We’ve become good friends over last few wks but I think we need to see other people.

Well, my son finally managed to connect on this 13 point 165" PA archery buck that we called moose, after we'd been targeting this reclusive buck on one of our smaller properties for what seemed like a very tense three weeks. This buck mostly lived in less than 10 acres of extremely thick cover with no trees, although sometimes he ventured out into a bean field in the middle of the night, and we could only hunt outside the perimeter of his 5 acre core bedding area. Although we had his patterns and bedding area figured out early on, he was really strange in the fact that every step that he took going anywhere in his life was exactly 50 feet behind the same two smartest does to be found anywhere. The lead doe busted us once on a fickle wind and they didn't come out on that side for a week. It took us a total of 5 hunts over the 3 weeks, and hours of brainstorming strategy and wind direction to finally make it happen. The final hunt was a nailbiter and it's a pretty good feeling when it finally all comes together! I can tell you that a certain father and son had a pretty big celebration :)

A big congratulations to you and your son. Great job in patterning that deer, and he is an extremely nice trophy buck.

If your property has what this buck wants, you have a good chance of holding him until next year. A thick bedding area where no human or dogs ever enter is number one.
That is the ticket for sure. Some deer tend to roam more than others so I’m hoping this one is more of a homebody.

Just saw a big racked buck cross lane. Time enough to shoot but not enough time to evaluate. Could be same deer as yesterday afternoon.
