Over here a buck would be after them... I have seen 2 does and each had a buck following or chasing. My wife has 1 doe with a big buck chasing!
Odd, we're not all that far from you...you'd think they'd be chasing here as well

No chasing here. Does are just walking around with their fawns as comfortable as can be. Saw 5 does yesterday with no bucks in tow.
 
We notice this here most every year in far southern Cherokee county in the deep woods. Ruts are typically early and intense for a brief time. By rifle it is usually just a very distant memory and is the reason if there was only 1 season I could hunt it would be muzzleloader...
