This drought we're in has shown me a first, according to the radar, a heavy rain and thunderstorm went right over the top of our farm. My weather app, which usually reads pretty conservatively, says we have received a half inch so far. I just talked to a buddy who drove by the farm and he said not a single drop had fallen, and the sky was clearing off. I guess the radar map is lying now... I'm going to go ahead and call it, no significant rain will fall in our area the next 3 days. The window for cool season grasses is shrinking, the frosts will come soon, I imagine ranchers will be selling cattle by winter's end in our area.
My father-in-law, who, like me, is known to exaggerate, has said this is the worst drought in his lifetime, much worse than '11 and '12. I can understand why he feels this way, because this has been so localized. When you see people getting ample rain merely a county away, and you cannot seem to squeeze even a drop out of the sky, it gets discouraging.
