Working towards Paradise!

Nice property, brings back lots of Florida memories. I grew up in Tallahassee and miss the Florida landscape but not the mosquitoes! Used to fish Orange and Lochloosa lakes which I think straddle Cross creek.
Yep the creek connects the two lakes.

Good job on the porker. We need to start a thread on different types of hog traps. Yours looks like a sturdy one.

what was wrong with them? I have trapped or shot a bunch of hogs and only one was so nasty i wasn't willing to clean but i found someone else that wanted it so it didn't go to waste.
I would love to kill an eatin' hog but all the ones I kill are not fit for table fare :(

Old big boars...I have tried everything to make them not make you want to wretch from the smell of cooking and when you get past that the taste is horrid even when ground into seasoned sausage or smoked and seasoned that you get a really bad look on your face when taking a bite :(

Throw out some pea seeds week or so ago to see if anything would come up. Came up pretty well for sand. Planned to spray this weekend but it pretty much rained all weekend.

Also put some down in some composting horse manure.

I'm pretty wasteful when cleaning hogs. The wild ones running around that i have trapped or shot dont really have much bacon or ribs and the tender loins are worth opening them up to me. I only take the back strap and and the for legs.

When I was shooting or trapping lots of hogs I got where all I took was the backstraps and tender loins. Let the coyotes have the rest.

That's a good eating size hog right there.

I love that pine plantation!!! The view from the shooting house is awesome . How old are those trees?
Thanks! I think they were planted sometime in the 90s they are going to be thinned this fall....hopefully it will work out for better hunting and more space for food.

Nice pig, I miss the pig parties we used to do when I lived in Florida. Nothing like a young hog slow smoked on hickory:D

Transplanted some figs from trays to 5gal buckets last night. Hopefully they will be ready to put out in the plots in the spring.
