Well as much as we need the rain this one is sure putting a damper on stuff...4:00 pm yesterday we broke a hose on the dozer that controls blade angle. Plan was to push trees until 5:00 and do smoothing until 6:30 on what we had done but instead we had lots of root hole picked ground left. I filled holes until after dark with the tractor because rain was coming in this morning. It is raining now but we are hoping to get the dozer fixed and see what we can do.

I was overseeding clover at 5:00 this morning just before the rain rolled in around the areas we cleared for the shop and powerline...

I wondered how the rain was going to affect you and your project. That's all you needed to do to stop the drought, start a big project that needs to be dry.

That's exactly right...nothing like working the earth or building something outdoors to bring the rain!

Well we got the new hydraulic hose on and headed back out to do more clearing around the south plot...goal was at least triple the size of the original but the challenge was to do it without taking out the white oaks...

Here is the dozer pulling a tree out with a cable. We had to pull 4 trees total...Makes a small dozer big...

Got the plot fertilized before the rain so hit it perfect. I also got part of the expansion seeded with WR and red clover yesterday evening before the rain and got 1/2 of the rest of the plot expansion seeded this evening. I still have a large area that got rained on before I could do anything with it so I am going to have to let it dry some before I get to smooth it and put the seed down...

Nice Job! Yours is a busy get things done happening place. You sure had nice dry looking dirt to work with there--didn't see any heavy rutting happening with the bulldozer--That makes a nicer end product. Our normal water table this time of year is one to three ft. down so ruts are difficult to avoid.

wow--looks awesome my friend.
Thanks Todd, I was just glad we got most everything done. I had big post oaks left I wanted to pull but they were in the really soupy area that had already been dozed the day before and we didn't want to get the dozer stuck so I guess I am just cutting them and killing the stumps and will use the stumps for camera perches...
That pic looks like it's going to have troubles in the near future getting enough moisture and sunlight. Is the pic just deceiving or will you continue to thin as needed? I know you are all about the acorn so maybe you really just want the open oaks?
Gator that view was from the stand. From the ground it is a really large area of open ground in all but one spot where I drive though a line of white oaks. Actual good growing ground is more than triple what I had in this plot and lots of sun will get to the ground...My plan is to keep clover around anywhere that see's shade and use the wide open areas for other plantings...may even try some soybeans this year and yes I am hoping the released white oaks put on bumper crops of acorns because they are my orchard...

In the area we did the day before the ground turned into soup with just a 6/10's rainfall yesterday morning but in new sections we pushed out of the ground was ripe for working with the dozer. I have a bunch of cleanup to do in the areas from the day before where the hydraulic hose busted...I will have to do it with my tractor because the dozer pulled out yesterday evening...
Looks awesome! I am anxious to see the next steps on that deck too!
No work on the deck since Friday because we were too busy with the dozing and dirt work...hope to show progress later this week...

This tree is one from our ground on whitetail hollow that the dozer guy took down in February 2014 by mistake before he realized I LOVE cedar trees lol.

Before with big deer rubs...

Thanks - My grandfather had cedar log post on his porch and I used to love those things and so I decided to incorporate some into ours and hopefully our grandkids will remember pa pa's cedar log porch...

Love cedar trees? One man's trash is another man's treasure but very cool you used it for you deck! I like it!

Absolutely love cedar trees because they certainly are a great screen and wind break and they stay green year around and have some of the most beautiful wood of any kind and who doesn't like cedar lined anything whether it be drawers and closets or accents around the home...what's not to like! Lots more cedar will be on the deck other than the post... Thanks

very nice, how did you fasten them to porch?Pin from bottom?Do you have to treat them at all or just let them dry out first
