A week after I spread the fertilizer I found our pond had turned green from runoff but it turned back clear a week later with me doing nothing. I had bought a clearing agent to put in it but never used it.

Wife and I hung some stands in August 2014...

This one was the one I figured would be the best spot and that was an understatement! It is located in a white oak grove between a ridge above the creek and the head of a huge hollow. A pinch point of sorts...

This hang on is the deepest stand in our property and from the deer sign I figured would pay dividends as well...

Going to skip forward a bit...

October 31st 2015 I climb the previously posted stand and await daylight with my muzzleloader. Cold and very windy that day. I had jumped a deer walking in and didn't see anything for about an hour or so. I was reading my kindle when I caught movement out of my left eye. I looked over and a huge 9 point buck was on a path to come right past my stand. I pulled my gun up and watched the deer go behind a large pine and stop. All I could see was his nose and his hind quarters. He stomped his foot, blew and ran like he had been shot with rock salt!

I was flabbergasted...all I could figure is the scent drag with Tinks on it I had drug behind me and was hanging 20 yards over and directly upwind of him had scared him. I was just about as down as I could get and knew if I had not been reading I could have shot him when he first walked up at about 25 yards...

I just sat there and about 15 minutes later another big buck came in and was going behind me and directly down wind. He got behind a tree and was testing the air so I put the crosshairs as tight as I could get on his neck and fired. When the smoke cleared he was down right there!

Here he is when he was alive from trail cam...

He dressed 147 lbs which is big for a ridge runner around here.

Great to see your post! I'm shaking my head at the prospect of rebuilding mine --too much cutting/pasting and my thread was a small fraction of yours.

Definitely a challenge for sure... I am condensing it quite a bit and am already almost through first year of ownership. Hope to be up to speed and current by the end of this weekend...

I killed my buck 10/31/14 and 2 hours after I left my neighbors cows got into our property and located our food plot. 5 cows lived on that plot for 9 days and all but completely obliterated our 1 1/2' tall durana clover plot...

How I found out is I went up to hunt on 11/08/14 to bowhunt and I slipped into our place quietly and eased to my stand well before daylight for my first all day sit. At 11:00 or so a guy came onto our property calling cows. I got down and went to talk to him. I had no idea his cows were in there until I saw them coming to him through the woods. I was pretty aggravated but helped him run them out and then we fixed fence for about 3 hours. The fence they got through was his old fence along our north border. I didn't replace this section because it was existing fence. He was a nice enough fellow and felt pretty bad about the damage. Our food plot is well south of the fence and he didn't know we had one... he said his cows have always roamed all the open woods around chasing acorns but always come home when they get thirsty or want salt. I mentioned we have water, mineral blocks, acorns, and a green field so they had no reason to leave...
He offered to let me hunt his 230 acres all I want. I am going to take him up on it!"

And I have ;)

November 11th 2014 (Veteran's Day) I found myself back at the same stand I killed the 9 point out of with my Bow in hand. I saw 4 bucks and a couple does but with the low deer numbers in our area I opted to not take a doe and the bucks were too young... About 8:00 AM I saw a doe running my way with her tongue hanging out. I immediately stood and got ready. She blazed past my tree and I could here a loud grunting and another deer crashing my way. I drew the bow and grunted to stop him but he kept moving past my window so I yelled and he stopped with a slight opening...I tried to slip an arrow through that hole and watched in horror as the arrow hit him above the shoulder and was straight through in an area of just meat and hide. He booked it out of there leaving no blood sign. I was pretty well disgusted with myself. I had hit one of the small branches and the arrow was kicked up...

I thought I would never see that deer again as he was a giant...

11/26/14 took my wife in to hunt the property for her very first time. I put her in this stand with instructions to kill a specific buck trail cams showed using that area daily.

A little after 7:00 am I heard her shoot and I got down and went to her aid. She told me she shot a buck and thought it was the right one and it had run down into the creek bottom. I followed the blood to her best buck ever!

She told me she was covered up by deer from crack of dawn on and had seen over 20 does and several different bucks...she told me she had to talk herself into shooting this one because she wanted to get the deer I told her about...

I was able to take the #1 buck I had identified I wanted to take from our property this morning. I had no trail cam photos of him since August 4th and thought he may have been taken by one of the multitude of rifle shots we heard throughout bow season.

I sat in the same stand my wife killed her buck from yesterday and the morning started off slow with no deer sightings until a doe and her twin buttonhead fawns came in about 8:00 AM. The doe came in downwind and got nervous and took her family to a place she deemed to be safer. About 9:00 I saw a doe at a distance through the woods and she had a nice 8 pointer following her. I looked him over real well through the scope and determined he was probably 3 1/2 yrs old so let him walk away hoping I would not regret it. About 15 minutes later I turned and noticed a large buck passing behind me along the crest of the ridge through the brush and I had no shot opportunity. I watched him moving through the thick stuff headed toward our west neighbors house and thought my opportunity had slipped away. About 10 minutes later I heard something running from that direction toward me and it was him chasing a doe with a small 8 pointer behind him, They ran up on my right and I was standing and ready by this point. luckily he stopped and I shot him. He came toward me so I shot him again with my 30/06 and he dropped. I am a firm believer in shoot again if they are still on their feet.

Anyway, here he is... Happy Thanksgiving everyone!"

It's great to be reading your thread again OkieKubota. Those are some awesome deer you've taken from your property.

This is a quote from after those hunts last year... Lets see how many we got done!

"Well now our rifle either sex season has come to a close it is time to get back on track with our land improvements. We have a pretty good list for this year and it will be even more expensive than last years fence project. Our goal is to have our Cabin/Home built, well dug, electricity brought in, gate moved, Prescribed burns, Hinge cuts and 1 more food plot and waterhole created

We are looking to build on the opposite side of the county road than we have been hunting to create a smaller foot print on that side. This will also allow us to bring electricity in from a direction that won't make our electric easement a sendero for us or our neighbors. By speaking with those around us our well will probably be about 150 feet deep and water will be good. We are going to build a modest 2 downstairs bedroom with a loft bedroom upstairs cabin of around 1,000-1,200 SF and a covered porch front and rear.

Our gate project which will be on both sides of the road will move our gate from the west area it is now up towards the east and will be welded pipe entryways straight across the road from one another. May not actually fence that side but will make any vehicle access have to use a gate.

I have observed the natural deer movement this fall and it looks like we have an ideal place for a plot in the center of the North 40. Looks like we will do about 1 acre there. Unlike the other plot I think we will push all the trees to the north as a screen along that edge with a couple openings and keep the other sides clean with a bit of edge feathering. Rocks from fist to head size will be present it looks like and will be something I have to deal with once the dozer is done. I am also looking at putting a small waterhole on the north side of that plot as well if the clay base is as good as it was where our other waterhole is. I am looking to hinge our north boundary about 200 yards across and also hinge our pine ridge for bedding. I am also needing to hinge our west boundary a little ways out from our neighbors because with the leaves off I can see their house from over 660 feet through the open woods. I am also wanting to do some plantings in that area to reduce visibility and possibly help with noise reduction as sound carries amazingly well up in this area."

Are you gonna have to build that fence all over again? Glad we have a place to land and start over.
Actually that fence build was one of the most interesting reads I've done, Kubota. Wouldn't mind some bits of it again.
