Update on Sarge the Wonder Dog

A few weeks ago I made a thread in the trapping sub-forum about mine and Sarge's experience with the two hogs. Well, I have bad news and, I hope, good news. Sarge has diabetes but since we discovered that a few months ago it has been under control. I've been giving him two shots of insulin each day and I thought he was in great shape for a ten year old dog. Unbeknown to me, almost all diabetic dogs grow cataracts and become blind. This happened to Sarge in a matter of two weeks. Hard to believe, but true ! He went from seeing everything to blind as a bat......

That's the bad news. The good news is that he goes to Dallas next Tuesday to get them removed and the operation is about 95% effective. The doc says he's an excellent candidate for cataract surgery so we are looking forward to him seeing as good or better than he did. Bring on the damn hogs !

Good luck, Sarge! My dog has cataracts as well but is not a great candidate for surgery.

image.jpeg Looks good so far Bill. The vet said all went well. Going home tomorrow after post-op checkup with a sack full of pills and eyedrops and a reduced bank account !:) The good news is when the pills are gone no refills needed, only got about a weeks worth. Most of the eyedrops will be discontinued but one
will be forever. I can live with that.

I can tell you that he ain't real happy with that lamp shadeo_O

Beechnut, ironic that you chose today to respond. I took Sarge back for a visit this morning and they found that the implanted lens had slipped and is now cockeyed in his right eye. Got to be back in Dallas tomorrow at eight for day surgery. Just another thousand bucks..........

Bummer. Hopefully the second surgery is more successful.

Thanks. The Dr. said she had seen this with very active dogs 4/5 days after surgery, but never two months after surgery. I always knew he was special !:D
If she can’t get it back in place and has to remove it, he will just be farsighted in that eye, which will make him about like me, one pretty good eye, and one not so much. At least he can still see !

We’ll get through this too.

Got up at 4:30 to get him here at 8:00. Traffic was a bitch. I wouldn’t live in Dallas for a million bucks a year:( ! I can’t take him home until three or four this afternoon, so I’m killing time. Whataburger for breakfast, thirty minutes. Y’all need anything from Cabelas ? :)

Me either, but I’m gonna walk around awhile and look.......

Thanks for the well wishes !

I’d take Dallas traffic over Houston traffic everyday of the week! But I don’t think you could pay me enough to live in either place these days...I did my time already! Hope this second round goes well and Sarge is back to himself soon.

.........and did you mention haaawgs ?

Well, the repair went well the Dr. said, got to take him back Monday for a checkup. Thank the Lord I could get a mid-day appointment so the traffic isn’t so bad. I got home at 6:30 tonight and I’m tired. Sarge was whiny but he’s lying on the floor now wearing his lamp shade.

(I bought a new rod and a new reel at Cabelas, ain’t fished in years but my oldest son wants me to go with him so I’m going after my plots are in and before bow season starts)
