came across this today. Little buck ran into the fence. Doesn’t look like he got caught in it. Maybe broken neck? Anyone have had this happen befor?

Sucks to be that buck. Maybe others saw what happened and will stay away??? Was fence still on when found like that?

fence was still on. Doesnt appear to have been caught in the fence as you can see in the picture. 3 years using the fence never had this happen.

never posted pic of the stream that runs along edge of my property. The state stocks trout for the put and takers. Wife and kids fish. I never got into that. I have a good 1/2 mile of stream. I let that open to public fishing. I like to BS with them and opening day I get about 40 campers there.

Love the mountains. You need a few more rocks in your fields. Thanks for showing, looking good.

Maybe lightning killed that deer - fence was the conductor? When I was a kid - I remember three cows dying like that -
the farmer had an insurance adjuster come look at them - could tell it was lightning by the hooves they told me. Was a long time ago - but I remember those cows looked like the were sleeping.

what would be something good to try and over seed in the corn and soybeans befor they canopy over? I was thinking winter wheat with a little clover? I was planning on letting it stand over winter so I didnt want to drill over it.

If any one is doing some summer travels near the Pa/Md/Wv border which I am located close to, and would like to stop by it is an open invitation to any one..

You could try some black cowpeas, they are really viney and should crawl right up the corn. Basically doubles your plot acres, just block off and lift up your drill units that run where the corn rows are.

On the beans I'd wait until they are close to leaf drop and then seed some rye/oats/brassicas.

Got any bears? My bears would flatten my corn so I broadcast rye and brassicas directly into both corn and beans. For the beans, right before leaf drop and a good rain works great!

i got back into the swing of things yesterday afternoon on this plot extension. Got leveled enough to be able to run the rock rake over it. Should be able to get this planted next weekend when I do my brassica planting.

well I’m almost done with this plot expansion. I’m planting brassica in most of it. Second picture of the really rocky area I’m pondering what to plant that would be good for the deer to stage up in or to be scent checking. It’s so rocky that I don’t want to drilling it just broad casting on it. It is roughly 100x45 yards. This area is between great bedding and my main feeding plot. It’s been one of my best areas which is why I wanted to expand to little plot. Any good ideas fellas

I’d start with a variation of the LC grain mix: Red clover, chicoryand rye/oats, or if you can get it, triticale. What’s your ph? Do you have a cultipacker? Access to cheap labor? I’d spend the effort to get the big rocks out.

Oh boy. That rock layer is over 4’ thick. That’s why I want to just go over top of it

Pictures can be deceiving. But just looking at your pics it appears like you have nice dirt and hand picking some of the surface rocks would improve the picture 100%. Let us know when you decide what you are going to plant. I have difficulty starting new plots that have just been cleared. I find that a thick seeding of clover is what it takes to get the soil in shape for other crops. Normally cereal grains grow anywhere, but my experience has been that even with lime and fertilizer grain and beans won't do well in new fields until I grow clover for a year. Brassica on the other hand seems to do ok in a new field when mixed with clover.
