I've never seen a deer die in an electric fence but I have seen them knock them down a thousand times. I've seen them tangle in a tight barbed wire fence and hang from a leg until they die or the yotes get them.

Love the stream! I took my boys to the Rockies this summer for our first trout fishing. It was awesome (but we all love to fish). Pretty cool that you leave it open to the public. I'm finding that fishing spots are getting to almost be as hard to find as deer hunting spots.

Pictures can be deceiving. But just looking at your pics it appears like you have nice dirt and hand picking some of the surface rocks would improve the picture 100%. Let us know when you decide what you are going to plant. I have difficulty starting new plots that have just been cleared. I find that a thick seeding of clover is what it takes to get the soil in shape for other crops. Normally cereal grains grow anywhere, but my experience has been that even with lime and fertilizer grain and beans won't do well in new fields until I grow clover for a year. Brassica on the other hand seems to do ok in a new field when mixed with clover.

this is the small area that is thick in the rocks. I only dug down 4 feet and it was still those size rocks. I’ll do the brassica this weekend my hand in it. I’m fertilizing and putting down the Humistart. The ph is probably 5 or less. That is typical of all my new plots.

Well I have found out that fishermen and me have one common like. . So I have a great time when they al come in. Putting up a pavilion at the stream is on my list of things to do. I’ve been burning the midnight oil here this week in the evenings since my wife has been volunteering at church camp this week for they needed a nurse. So just my and the dog getting tractor time in till the thunderstorms rolled in tonight. Weld like this I gotta go to work to rest. Since you took the kids to the Rockies and showed them real mountains. Now you can bring them east and show them all the crazies in the cities. Lol. I’m about 2 hour from DC. And about 25 min to flight 93 memorial. As I offered on here befor. Any one welcome to stay at Cabin while there traveling about.

Great offer and thanks! We actually drove to DC a couple days after we got back from Colorado, then spent 2 weeks in Virginia. It was a GREAT trip! You have to be careful, might actually take you up on that offer someday if we ever head back that direction!

Thought of that option too. That area not able to reach with a triaxle. Would have to shuttle with my little dump truck. Might be about only option though

Dude you have some serious rock on those fields. PA has some serious rocky ground in some areas. Don't know ifyou ever hiked the AP but many of the thru hikers will actually skip the PA section as its known for twisted ankles and broken bones from its terrain. I've got couple good yankee friends near you. Pretty country tho. Is your stream a feeder of the Youghiogheny that is a great whitewater paddle? Good luck on the work and I think no or minimal till will be your friend with lots of grains and clovers.

Dogghr, the AP trail through Pa is as miserable as hiking a dry rocky stream bed all day. 2" of topsoil in that field would make a big difference if you keep it in a continual clover plot and never till it again.

That field looks about like our Well Plot did. With ample lime and rock picking, its become our best spot for big buck pics (given location near bedding). Get some grain and clover planted....pick up the bigger rocks every year and it will pop!

Yep, I farm fields that either have alot of rocks or they are all rocks... My stream is the beginning of Wills creek which turns into the Potamac River. Im right on the Eastern Continental Divide. I can pee in the creek at my house which is feeder for the Youghiogheny and it would go to the gulf and if I pee in Wills Creek at cabin it ends up in DC aka " The Swamp".. LOL

Have you considered just packing those rocks flat and going 100% no-till? If you can get them flat enough that you can safely get a mower over them, I would leave it as is. Lots of things can be broadcast and grown with a little rainfall.

Impressive to see what you have done with the rocks that you have. If I didn't know any better I would have thought you lived on a mining spoils pile! Still very pretty area and you can obviously grow and take some nice deer!

Yes it is fun to shoot at the longer distance. I did not realize how hard it is to find a safe place to shoot longer distances till I started. 360 yards and a 3.5" target is an awesome shot. Its always fun to watch buddies shoot with their kentucky windage after they say 3 to 6 hundred yards isn't that far..

. Should I be concerned about the Japanese beetles that are eating and breeding on my soybeans? I think now that the beans are growing at a good rate maybe they can not be bothered by the beetles. Or should I try to spray something on them. This is the best my plots have ever looked so maybe I’m just being a little pair-anode about them but dang it took a lot to get them to grow in rocks. Lol

Thank you CCC. It has been enjoyable seeing it transform from what it was. We ride,hang out , shoot. Pretty much have fun all year long there till hunting season then it’s hunting time only. It’s been better on my patience if I keep telling myself it’s just a hobby and remember to keep it fun. When I showed my wife last night where next two food plots are going she laughed and said I my have OCD. I’m not really sure what she was getting at. Lol
