Live from the stand 2016!

Hit a nice doe just before sundown in a winter wheat field. She ran about 200yds and then stood in place and literally didn't move for nearly an hour. The other four deer with her grazed around her during that time. I backed out and waited 90 minutes thinking she would lay down there. Came back and no deer. Piles of blood where she stood bit no blood trail leading away. Going to wait until morning and try and track during daylight.

Good luck in the morning. Looks like a low hit to me--maybe brisket? Hope you find her in the morning.

Yes low and back further than I'd have liked. Plenty of blood where she stood but nothing else. It's a cool night so she'll keep. Hoping to find her nearby in the morning.

Did you see any intestinal contents with the blood? And she never bedded down?

No. Good blood on the arrow no guts or bad smell. She never bed down. She stood hunched over for over 30 minutes. I kept thinking she would pass right there but after I backed out she moved off. We trailed her a bit but came on a deer staring at us from the brush so it may be her bedded now. Will start there in the morning.

Almost had a double tonight shot a doe a little before 5 and just before dark a nice buck came in, I shot the blind, I guess I have to get used to shooting out of a pop-up lol

Follow up. I found her last night still alive peering at me from her bed so we backed out to wait until this morning. Found her after first light, half eaten by Coyotes.

Back out again today. Pulled a card on my way in and had no new pics. The two scrapes near this stand haven't been freshened up recently either. Not sure what's going on as I thought it would really start heating up this week.

Totally skunked today. The only deer I know was even in my vicinity is when I got down this evening and starting making my way back to the truck. Spooked one about 50-60 yards from my stand. At least I spooked it walking and not getting out of the stand. Hopefully Thur will be a better day.

Very uneventful morning. Did not see one deer. Camera counts are way down right now, even on the feeders. Deer must be focusing on acorns.

Hopefully rain is on the way.

Well I've had my most eventful hunt of the year this evening. Had a doe come out soon after I got in the stand, and I planned on shooting her if she headed my way. A very large buck stepped out after her, however, and I immediately knew he was the big 8 I've been watching on camera. This was the first time I've seen him in person since opening day of last year. He's a giant.

While I was watching him, the other big buck I've been watching for the last 4 seasons stepped out in front of me 60 yards away. Caribou buck is not the brightest...I have seen him frequently over the years.

I had already committed to passing up both these bucks for 1 more season. Next year will be a different story.

Not a ton of activity tonight, but it was 72 degrees at sun down. One 2 year old buck following a doe. Not pushing her but definitely following. Pulled a card on the way out and the activity level over a scrape is definitely on the increase. One new buck with a unique rack and some of the other larger bucks are making appearances on a more regular basis. Just need some cold weather to get them moving in the daylight!!
