Live from the stand 2016!

Last day of BP season for us Okies. 61 degrees at sunrise and very light to no wind. I can't remember a warmer BP season which has kept all mature bucks nocturnal. I can't wait to see the numbers from the state but I can only guess that numbers will be down.

Another warm day yesterday in Upstate New York. 68 degrees. Nothing moving. This morning it's 50. Have a doe and twin fawns out about 200 yards grazing in a cut corn field.

Taking off the week of Thanksgiving for rifle season. Can only hope for a cold front and the Rut to get the boys up and moving.

I am thinking I am taking the entire week after next and know for sure I am taking the week of thanksgiving off...

Had the four deer I previously mentioned get within 25 yards but no shot. Five minutes later a coyote came cruising through and I went full draw on him but he never presented a shot either.

Steady N/NW breeze...going to my stand on the hollow...first good wind to hunt our place since before muzzleloader season began. Brutes on camera here...

I got a good feeling about this evening. Nice breeze in my face, cowpeas in front, cut corn behind - been in the stand 10 minutes and already got 4 deer in front.

Hard for me to keep track of what I've seen so far. I think 11 does/fawns and one young 7 pointer. They are in the cowpea/sunn hemp mix.

Sitting deep woods on our place...nothing so far...trail cams don't show any rut activity and does and bucks still feeding together...

Probably a week till prerut here...

Another doe with 2 fawns just came out. I'm turning into a softie...I can't bring myself to shoot a doe with little ones. I know they will survive, I just don't want to do it.

Hit a nice doe just before sundown in a winter wheat field. She ran about 200yds and then stood in place and literally didn't move for nearly an hour. The other four deer with her grazed around her during that time. I backed out and waited 90 minutes thinking she would lay down there. Came back and no deer. Piles of blood where she stood bit no blood trail leading away. Going to wait until morning and try and track during daylight.
