House and Habitat build thread:

Great stories and short drag on that buck. Can't beat that. Merry Christmas sunset man.
Thanks and merry Christmas to you.
The deer was nice enough to actually fall in the middle of the road... very short drag. :)

Planting trees, grass, tending to previous plantings, taking inventory of survivors, and shooting something other than deer.

Plus this morning's sunrise for those who like that sort of thing.

Sprayed plots and pasture a week ago. Also did a small plot of floury corn with the youngest. It got rained on a couple of days later so we are golden.

What is floury corn? That is quite a plow!

lak, according to my research it's a feed corn that has a thinner pericarp, higher microbial count, and is 50% more digestible than standard corn. It's suppose to be better feed than other corns... Standard feed corn isn't great "feed because" shipablility was more important than nutritional qualities. We used to export most of our corn and it needed to be "hard" to arrive undamaged. With changes in laws and whatnot we don't ship corn out of the country as much anymore, but the standard seed is still what is largely available. So in short.... it's suppose to be better deer food.

It is quite the plow! I do throw n mow almost exclusively. But larger seed is very depended on regular rains for at least 2 weeks. The last couple of yrs have been very dry with sporadic spring rains at best. I decided not to chance it with the corn and used the teeth on the bucket to drag out some rows. A pass after broadcasting with the bucket flat covered seed up nicely.

Great view as always. I like how you do the mixes of seeds. I've never done AWP in the spring, may have to give that a try since deer eat them faster than they can grow with fall plantings.

Thanks. I've never tried them in the spring either and figure they will be marginal at best. But... they may take pressure from my sunflowers and let them grow a little. The alternate soybeans on these small plots won't make pods anyway, with my mix I can't spray gly, and I can buy AWP by the pound so they fit and fill a need well.

Perfect timing for the plot! We had a heavy inch of rain last night and some small thunderstorms rolling through this moring. That seed should have been pounded down to the soil and soaking wet.

Fantastic! Can't wait to see the follow up pics!

Great weekend for moisture! Corn is poking through and all the seed I put out Friday is germinating. Of course everything under thatch is doing a little better than what's on open ground.

Very nice,i got my starter fertilizer spread Friday but still to wet to plant
May be a while before you can get in to plant. Forecast doesn't look like drying type of weather for a while. We are opposites at the moment, I have seed on the ground but no fertilizer.
