Lots going on with the house build and a little with habitat. It's been hot and dry so my sunflower and millet plots haven't done much, but the deer are hammering them anyway. I won't have much thatch for fall throw-n-mow though.
Shipped 300 sterile heffers this week. They averaged 220lbs of gain (on grass) over the last 100 days. 2.2lbs per day is good gains with no feed combined with hot weather. Plus they were gentle and super easy to work with!

Started building my shop. Cleaned an area, moved a bunch of rock, and leveled out 69 tons of screenings. Got to get a guy up here that can drill in rock before moving on...

Nothing like a kit for a .22 to keep kids busy with their hands. The older boy got himself his first pistol. A 1911 in 9mm that he's already a good shot with. He's already asking for extra hours to keep up with ammo for turtle hunting. They built the displays themselves too.

A week ago Thursday my running streak hit 22 yrs. I celebrated by running 22 miles that day (21 on my own then 1 mile with a group that came over to celebrate with me). That was one hot and sunny day!
Then on this past Saturday the team I'm on for The Great Race won! It's a very competitive race with people from all over the country participating. It involves canoes, a motorcycle, a horse, a bicycle, and several runners.

Finally getting some shine on the bar... but I'm not happy with it. I used a water based poly and it just doesn't finish like I wanted. Not sure if I should leave it or try to find a way to change it.

They got use to it. We shoot off the deck almost every day, .22's a blazing! We have gong targets set at 30yrds, 220yds, and 450yds. The deer don't care the least bit.

What route is that? I've ridden much of KS on motorcycle and it might be one been on.. Pretty impressive to have that record of running over the years. You should be proud. Congrats. Cool win in the group race, that one has to be interesting with combination of all those events. Deer studs are looking good. Always a great thread.

You have had a lot going on! The floor and bar look great. IF/when I do one I want to put glass over the top and put old pictures, adds and the like under it as conversation pieces. The kids have been busy too. Hunting turtles with a 9 from a tree stand...... I thought hunting the chickens with a bow was odd..... must be something in the water out there! Also looks like you got some nice deer as well. Pumpkins look to be growing well also.

Thanks dogghr! The road is a common ride. They meet at a hole in the wall cafe in Cassody for breakfast, then cruise down this road to the Burden or Dexter area before looping around and heading back to Wichita. It's a nice hilly and twisty road. Let me know if any of those towns rings a bell, we'll figure out if you've been on my road before. I ran a race in Germany once. I won, beat the defending champ, and set a course record. The race started at a castle on the top of a mountain, went straight down the mountain, and then zig zagged all the way back up. They couldn't believe I could run up a mountain because I was from KS and wanted to know how I train. I just grinned and said there is one little hill near my town.... EVERYONE in the world thinks KS it flat!
