House and Habitat build thread:

Pumpkins and sunflowers got some much needed rain last night. They were starting to really struggle but this is where thatch on throw-n-mow really shines. Bid difference between the plants that germinated under thatch, and the ones coming up in bare soil.

It been a while since I did any work on the house. Kids, cattle, invasives, and life has kept me on other projects. I took a break and started putting flooring in the man cave today. It's the gym floor that my wife played on when she was in high school. She lost 4 games in high school and "thinks" she was udefeated on this floor. She was pretty excited when I brought it home!

Cool touch. I salvaged a piece out of our old high school track, when we got it resurfaced, the year before my daughter graduated. Wanted lane "4" but could only find the "1" in the dumpster. Framed it and put all of her track medals on it and had it on display for her graduation reception. It turned out pretty cool.

That is cool! Lane 4? She must have been fast if that was her lane!

Went on to the bar and laid down some stain this afternoon. I went dark with it and didn't sand all of the saw marks out because I like the rustic look (and I want to remember milling it). This hackberry has a great grain in it! Almost like a turkey tail...

Now I have to figure out what to finish it with. Anyone have a recommendation for a thick and glossy bar finish?

Caught the states smallest bird and heaviest bird in the same frame. The turkeys (upper right) have been in that plot nonstop since the wheat matured and I planted sunflowers in it. There is also a doe that spends a ton of time hammering the sunflowers.

That floor turned out awesome and the bar already looks great so I can only imagine after it is finished.
Oh, and I'm saying go for the match, take some points if you can get them though lol!

Oh trust me guys, I've played her many times. I take every point I can get! She has a killer shot fake, fade away, jump shot (she actually jumps), and great footwork to box out. I don't know how many guys have wanted to play her in a game of 21 because no girl could ever beat them in basketball, just to walk away with their tail between their legs. It's kind of fun.

Anyone know a good finish to put on that bar? I'm kind of at a loss on what to finish it with.

Aren't most bar tops just coated with polyurethane?

Got .4in of rain and temps cooled down to the 80s this morning and everything comes out of the woodwork.

These guys spent some time in the food plots but also stopped at this old elm stump that I cut a couple of yrs ago. It sprouted and has been browsed regularly ever since. I sometimes wonder about the effort of plotting when a little manipulation of nature seems to be preferred. I like plotting too much to give it up, but it's nice to know other stuff works to in case a crop fails or something.

I put this purple martin house up a couple of yrs ago. Nothing but sparrows used it last summer. I was thrilled to see three take up shop in it this spring and it appears they had babies... big swarm of them snapping up bugs every time you walk by! I may need to put up another house for next yr.

I'm growing pumpkins. Several varieties including Big Max, Atlantic, some white giant, and some seeds given to me out of a 850lb pumpkin. These are the first to start to grow. Hopefully they can survive the summer under my care and grow into something cool.
