House and Habitat build thread:

Besides having a thing for Osage Orange, I also have a thing for Mulberry. The first tree is a male (about 4in caliper) that I topped about 5ft up. It's a mass of fresh shoots that will be hammered later this fall. The second tree I topped and trained to grow sideways for easier picking. Both trees are really valuable in their own way.

You got some good pickers. We has a mulberry tree when I was a kid but we did not eat them. Grapes Muscatine and scuppernong were our choice

Glad to see you like the mulberry - I have tons of them to the point they are nearly a weed on my place. They mostly feed the birds. The deer browse them in high traffic areas, but I have so many the deer can;t eat enough of them to do any real harm.

Wanted to let you know I caged the remaining sawtooths you sent me today that are in my plots. I had over 75% success with direct seeded in my plots and containers. I still need to check on those in the woods, but those where a long shot. I also did transplant a few of my bigger ones from the porch and I did have some root circling, but it wasn't too bad.

I had to look up what a trumpet yelper was. Beautiful calls! Do you sell these or just make them for yourself?
I am in GA. So it would have to be shipped. I'll be more than happy to pay for it. I don't need a big piece either. One fence post would be plenty as all that is needed to make 1 call is 6" of wood.

Scuppernongs are a type of muscadine but is usually larger and have the same coloring as a white grape.

I'll be damned. Never heard of them before. Thanks for the info.
I'll check with the post office about shipping. I've shipped a lot of things that get weird looks or questions, never walked in with an old wooden fence post though. I bet it's interesting...

Most of you can probably relate. Spent half a day with a manual, a mirror on a stick, a flashlight, and a multimeter trying to figure out why the machine I parked in perfect running condition wouldn't start the next morning. I hate rats!

Trying something new with my throw n mow. It's too thick to mow, no brush hog at the moment, and I don't have a roller/crimper. Drop the bucket all the way down and float the vegetation down. Hope it works, but I'm going to have to get rain first to find out.

I'll be watering trees tomorrow since this is going to build north of us. I've been putting it off for a few days...
Watered the lawn today hoping to illicit a rain, should have washed the car too.
