And finally, a sunset pic just because...

Was going to unfriend you for the snake pic then you showed the sunset. You are forgiven. I pretty much was a slacker in public school but always loved any science class. My dad bought me a chemistry set when I was in grade school Most the chemicals including ammonian nitrate are outlawed now for the public much less a kid. Sure liked to blow up things back then. Amazing what you can do with a chem set and powder from firecracker. Wouldve prob liked your classes.

Lol, other than some hydrogen balloons I try to not a have a lot of explosions. Of course, just like you that is what the students want!

So a sunset is what it takes to forgive a snake event? I may have to try to convince my wife of that... bet it doesn't work!

The awnless wheat is working great! Deer are focused on it more than anything else I have planted at the moment.
You can see the heads in the first pic and if you look close the headless stems in the second pic.

All my fall grain has gone to brown seed now. Not sure the deer like it but turkey and other birds do. What do your boys do during summer time?

I'm not seeing turkeys in our plots this yr. They seem to be spending a lot of time in the ag fields where it's a lot shorter or bare dirt right now. You guys are probably a month ahead of us in the growing season. I bet it's a while before our heads start dropping seed.

Kids stay busy during summer!
Weight room at 6:30am
Basketball from 8:00am-10am
Chores and studies (mom has them read or do a random math worksheet) when they get home.
The 14yr old ranches for his summer job. This usually takes most of the afternoon.
The evening is usually fishing/swimming or watching TV/X-box.
We usually run in the evening too.
They both spend a week of summer away at church camp, and we will spend a weekend or two at my buddies lake house.
Both attend various sports camps throughout summer.
Tomorrow the wife's sister and family return home for a couple of weeks. They are between moves (military) and will have an extended stay at home base. The kid's schedule goes out the window when the cousins are back!

I couldn't figure out why the does were in the yard yesterday morning, and so close to where I've been working. When I came home in the afternoon it dawned on me; they were eating the hedge tree I'm cutting up. Once again, the lowly and hated Osage Orange comes through as a favorite of the deer.

The cousin's first day back and they are catching buckets of fish together. Cool times!

This post is kind of a reference for future records of plants and bloom times. It's also an illustration of one of the reasons I love Kansas; it's a beautiful place with lots of natural diversity.

Have any old hedge fence post or anything of the like laying around you don't want anymore?
Not really. I burn hedge and use it for fence, but what are you thinking? What do ya need and how much? I can always help a guy out...

^^^ I'm just screwing around. The pan is full of fish. I don't know what happened to the snake. I fished and the kids headed up the creek with it. We did not eat it though...

I just want an old fence post to make turkey calls out of. Old Osage, especially the part that has been buried, is great for trumpet yelpers.

I'm sure I could find something you could use. Where are you located? Is this going to be within driving distance or will shipping be involve (I'm guessing if you where within driving distance you could find your own piece of hedge...)? Length and diameter of the piece you need?

If jason doesn't have one I can probably find also, thats like the hardest wood there is except maybe dried cottonwood

I had to look up what a trumpet yelper was. Beautiful calls! Do you sell these or just make them for yourself?
