House and Habitat build thread:

Good job for your dad to send in the pics. Kids do enjoy. Thanks for all you do for them and the cross country team.
My dad (all 4 of their grandparents really) had done great things for our kids! My wife and I are very fortunate to have great families.
Thanks!

Great to have those grands in the life of your kids, and in your like too. My favorite "job" is that of poppa. I thoroughly enjoy the time we get to spend with any of the nine grand kids. Also, my Mom (91) is still alive and my daughter and son make sure they and the kids pay her a visit anytime they can. She loves it!

When the Lake Magazine folks did the article on my garden on the pier the writer quoted me a couple of times about the grandkids. I got text messages from daughter and daughter-in-law that the kids really beamed when they read that part in the article.

Keep those kids and old folks interacting!

That is some amazing growth.

I have my own fridge in the garage and another small dorm fridge in the sun room. Keeps the wife from complaning.

Place looks great.

I remember your article in the lake magazine. I thought that was very cool! Thought your dock garden was pretty cool too. Glad that your grandkids have good grandparents.

Congrats on being published Cat. I'm sure the kids are tickled. Frame it up nice and put it on the wall.

Glad to see the deer are taking a liking to your scrape tree - I just put my cams on mine over the weekend as I started to see some evidence of scrapes in other places. That one buck is a real dandy - I would be hard pressed to pass on him.

The scrape tree is cool! I think I'm getting a good inventory of the bucks and it cost's nothing.
I don't want him to walk by and make me choose. But I've shot lots of deer like him and I really want something bigger. Can't get a bigger one if you always shoot guys like him.

The scrape tree is interesting - I don't have much in the way of deer numbers so mine don't see near the use some do. Oh, I understand why you don't want to have to make the choice.....if he doesn't show no need to make the choice. I fully understand they don;t get bigger when they are dead as well. If you already have deer like him under your belt then letting him walk becomes much easier.....not all of us have achieved that yet.

Remember j-bird...K-A-N-S-A-S!

;)
Your right....not all of us can live in the promised land of deer hunting!!! I pass a deer like that here and someone will shoot me because I done lost my mind!

So what's he score? How long are his g2's, g3's? Inside? Main beam length?

Cat scratch- your place looks great- don't envy the presence of frequent tornadoes one bit. Looking forward to you updates this fall.

Thanks. I didn't mind tornadoes until I started owning stuff like houses and property. Now I have kids and a wife... I can get fairly worried about them now.

The bean experiment is still going. All the soybeans in the area are dried down and mostly cut, the grocery store beans are still going strong and starting to produce.
The grocery store beans I put in my TnM this fall all sprouted but none got over 6 inches tall. The deer hammered them right off the bat and they are GONE.

I figured your "garden" beans wouldn't stand much of a chance against the deer away from the house. Anything actively growing that you tend to grow in a garden will be hammered by deer and all sorts of critters. To be honest I'm surprised you can even find them - I figured you would have stems at best. So when you planting plots of "grocery beans"???? I know in my area when the soybeans are harvested a few spill out and sprout and they don't last long....deer LOVE a fresh green soybean plant when everything else is dried down for harvest.

No clue how old he is, but he matches up perfectly on his other side. He honestly doesn't look as old as some of the other deer running around with smaller antlers. There were rumors of a big 12 around our place last yr... but I never saw it. I think his antlers are "stunted" a little. We have been very dry the last 4yrs and most of the older bucks I have around are small with respect to their antlers. Lots of rain this yr that I hope helps antlers next yr...

I can't find them anymore. I paid close attention when they germinated and watched them grow. Once they hit a few inches tall they disappeared. Good for a week of action though!

Everybody is checking out the new rubbing post, even racoons are giving it a sniff.
