That's what I heard as well for the reason of the shortage, demand is going up every year, but a short crop this year. I'm trying my first wack at cover cropping in at least one of our ag fields this year. Having Rye and turnips/radishes seeded into standing corn to try and suppress some weeds, provide a mulch and try to get some more OM back into a almost beach sand field. Going to soybeans next seasonI think the rye crop was poor this year around the northern states. My hunch is it had something to do with the late start to spring. I know a handful of guys that had awful rye this spring, including myself. Northern Iowa had a foot of snow fall on April 24th.
