why no tubular production?

I planted a plot behind the house this year. It was a BOB mix, radish, turnip, etc. I oversewed with oats,wheat,etc.

Deer are eating in it, but not smashing it. However I noticed I have very little bulb production. Any ideas as to why I wouldn't get goo production of bulbs?

It depends on which turnips they put in the mix, some are forage turnips which are more top growth and less bulb production and some like purple top turnips are more into bulb production.

ok thank you. I thought I added some purple tops but maybe I didnt this year. I will have to make sure to get them in next year for sure! PTT are my favorite to plant!

Nothing noticeable. Almost none at all. I do have big heads on them tho.

Is it possible that you planted them too thick? I seem to have the same problem. Best tubors I get are on the edges where planting rate is lighter.

you should have gotten tubulars from the radishes for sure. sounds like your soil might be low on something. i wish i could tell you what. this was my first try at radishes above and mine were small but i had tubulars.

My radishes (groundhog was the brand) had tubers the size of my arm. On of my sons favorite pasttimes was to pull some and shoot them with the .22 and watch them explode

My guess is too heavy planting which stunts them bad or too little N.

I measured the plot with range finder. I did .5 seed on .6 acres. Now i did go heavy on wheat, and eye after they where established.

I took a soil test and ph was near 7.
I hit them with urea before a heavy rain.

Bob was one of heartland mixes which I have had great success with in the past.
