"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Snow if you can see is not terribly threatening to most here as everyone is used to it and with care it is not much of a problem. That black ice though spares no one. Just the slightest crown on the road is enough to start a slide into the bushes. I fear that and have terminated many drives when seeing others off the road.
Congratulations to Mrs. Okie on the pig. Hope you have been eating a lot of venison up; them freezers can be expensive.

Wife and I got home from work and were putting on our jammies when I looked out the kitchen window...

On the shed board for 2018 finally...found this left side shed off of the old sick buck directly in front of the stand we have killed 3 of the 4 big bucks we have taken off our place dead center of our property...

While at work today I got a call from my taxidermist letting me know one of the deer I killed many years ago was done... I shot this buck on October 26th, 2002 while sitting on a finger ridge at our deer lease. Had a doe come from my left going to my right and a couple minutes later here comes this buck along her trail. I was sitting on the ground with my back to a tree and he was to my left about 20 yards and he busted me. He was turning to run when I got the shot off with my old .54 caliber muzzleloader... he ran about 80 yards gushing blood...

I originally caped him and cut the rack off thinking I would mount him up soon. I ended up killing a big 12 pointer about a month later and one thing led to another and the next thing I knew it was about 14 years later so I decided to take it to the taxidermist and told him take his time as I was in no hurry. Sure is good to have him back...he told me the other 4 would be done within the next month lol...

Very nice deer Okie, I like the high rack and long tines. It is a very nice mount as well. The cape held up very well; did you freeze it after caping or have it tanned right away? It looks very fresh.

The original cape from this deer is long gone from 1 of my freezers going out a few years ago. The cape is from another buck I killed a few years back...interestingly enough both capes look like they could have been twins...back then I had no cell phone with a camera and pictures were taken on film...here is a picture of an old picture of him...

Nice mount and nice shed Okie. That area of your woods you burn, what does it look like come summer? I have never burned my woods but have considered it before. I have seen an area that was burned on accident and was surprised at the green vegetation that grew back the new summer.......it did however do a number on the small woody browse plants.

Interesting thing about those old cameras...We used to actually have prints made instead of keeping them all on our phones! I still like to look back thru old albums. I used a Polaroid back in the day to capture our hunting pics just so I'd have an instant pic.

April 7th 2018. 25 degrees and snow! All fruit trees were completely flowered out so no fruit for 2018. Oaks were starting to bud so going to be set back for 2018. Food plots (if rains continue)and corn feeders may be the game in our area for this coming fall...#crazyspring2018

Flew out of Omaha on Tuesday and had to de-ice the plane. It was snowing when we left. Crazy weather this spring. Bad news on your fruit trees. Seems to happen to me every year, particularly with the pears.
