E...Not sure how I've missed your thread and just got caught up on it. I'm with the other guys on the mown clover patch with flowers in the background. Great pic. Congrats on the turkey!
I thought my turnips would be bigger but they were planted later than I usually get them in. As with most of my throw and mow plantings there are thin spots and some spots that look pretty good.
Not sure about the Escort XP treatment, some of the SL looks a little sickly and a lot of the other broadleaf plants are toast? Hopefully it just takes more time than pastureguard?
It has been a good year for trees. This Concordia Oak is out of a 4 foot tube.
This is the area that wpdeer's chestnuts will be planted in next spring. They will be tubed and RU'ed around, we will see how well Chinese Chestnuts compete with sericia. It is a east facing slope that has some decent deer trails through it. I did plant a few to fill in for some dunstans that died. Thanks for looking, fortunately that is all the pics I took since photobucket is about to get thrown against the wall!
The kid got his first deer about 8 am opening morning of youth season in Missouri. She was about 45 yards in front of the blind. About 75 yards off in the grass was a yearling buck that the boy hadn't seen yet. I decided to go with the old bird in the hand motto and told him to shoot the doe. He pulled the trigger and hit her in the shoulder. She ran off in the woods. He had a panicked look on his face and asked if he missed. I told him I thought he hit her pretty well. Walked up to were she was standing and found no blood, walked the trail into the timber no blood. Now dad is panicking! Looked over about 15 yards and there she lay. I went back out to the food plot and told the kid to walk the trail she was off of and look for blood. When he was within about ten feet of her he started whispering that he thought he found her.
Shot was from the popup in the background. This is in my "pretty" food plot I posted a while back. I have been in on the killing of a few deer, but I may have been prouder of this one than the kid was. Cooked up some tenderloins and heart last night.
I have been wanting to put a path through my timber on the west side for a couple of years now. Finally made time to do it. This will make burning this section much easier. It will also make a nice trail for deer to follow that comes out 25 yards from a stand.
A few downed trees had to be moved. Two takes of gas in the saw later I made it out the other side.
I had a couple of hundred pics of deer coming through here. A couple of decent 3 year olds that made it through the season. Still holding antlers as of Groundhog Day.
I suggested they use my new path.
This big boy is being held up by a little skinny limb. We get a good windy day it should tie this together pretty well.
After the third tank of gas through the saw and a chain getting pretty dull I decided it was time for some grocery shopping. A little stomping later I found a rabbit, actually saw more quail than rabbits! Some of this stuff might be working. Thanks for looking.
