The Massey

I quit planting purple top turnips and switch to radishes because our deer didn't seem to care much for turnips, they would take a bite out of a few and most would rot. Let us know how your deer clean these up.
They do the same at my place. Gave up on planting them some time ago. They love the radish tops though.

I’ve planted my last brassicas I think. The deer annihilate them as they sprout. Used to be my fav plot. Keep up the good work thru your Sahara like conditions!

Don’t know how I missed this a few days ago. Thanks!!
Sat in the lower barn plot blind with Dawna this morning. The old 6 better not do this in a month in front of her!

Pretty big day today, Addison is going on her first bowhunt this evening. If the wind holds, we will be going to the lower barn plot. She just wrapped up her hunters safety exam yesterday. There’s a couple bucks she will be targeting including the old six from above, but she really would like to get a doe shot. Her max range is 20 yards, so we’ll see what happens. Gonna be a beautiful day, I’m really hoping the wind will keep at least a little east to it.

Yesterday marked the beginnings of a new direction at the Massey. For several reasons, not the least of which is trying to keep our fruit trees from getting sprayed again, we are going to begin growing about 10 acres of alfalfa for hay. It’s a pretty high commodity in our neck of the woods. Not many farmers are messing with growing it anymore. This should provide us a little more income over what we were cash leasing the ground for. We will still have around 18 acres of ag ground that will be cash rented. Anywho, I got some soil sample cores to the extension office yesterday.

Alfalfa is a great food plot, and has drawn some bucks out that we never saw during the day.Can be hard to get started with the droughts but then you also can't have any low spots that hold water.
